NBA 2008-09 Season

I think you should heed your own advice about panties and check your depends. That's probably the place you'll find the smelly excrement your spewing.:rolleyes::mad:

I can't even imagine what it'll be like here when the Raiders play the Browns this upcoming season.

Dude....like I said....I do not talk smack about games. Neither he nor I have ANY BEARING on the outcome.....NONE. I want my team to win and he wants his. I am not playing defense and he ain't playing offense.

Where are the Celtic Bros on this board? (CeltsHD and BillD)??

I'm eager to hear there thoughts on Marbury going to Boston....

I think it's a no lose situation for the C's.

They desperately need depth RIGHT NOW! KG is out another 2-3 weeks, Tony Allen is out at least 8 weeks, Brian Scalabrine was sent back to Boston after getting another concussion (his third ) the other night, and both Sam Cassell and Patrick O'Bryant were traded.

That leaves Big Baby, Leon Powe (one of whom will now have to start with both KG and Scalabrine out), Eddie House and a still very green (no pun intended :p) Gabe Pruitt as the only viable depth on the team.

Besides, KG, Pierce, Ray Allen, Perkins et al would eat Marbury alive if he tried to pull anything.

I wouldn't say it's a "no lose situation." Clearly there's a risk with signing Marbury. He's had a track record of not being a good teammate. There's no denying that. He could very well disrupt the chemistry currently in place. Plus, Marbury hasn't seen action on the court since January of 2008! He's been riding the pine for over a year, so there has to be some sort of adjustment period.

However, if it does work out as you suggest, the Celtics now have more depth and a heckuva talent in Marbury.

Either way, it's a risk. Someone's either going to look very good after this trade or they're going to look very bad. We shall see...

Sorry, that ain't happenin'....................not on this team.

I'm not saying that this will work out. Like you said, he hasn't played since Jan. 2008, so he could very well end up a bust. But it won't be because he disrupted the chemistry. Not a chance.

Garnett out, his back-up, Scalabrine out, and they gave eleven minutes to a 7 foot, 225 pound guy named "Mikki" who I had never heard of.

Mikki Moore is actually an upgrade over Patrick O'Bryant.

But in a perfect world, the C's certainly don't want Mikki (pronounced Mikey) playing eleven minutes.

The State of the Detroit Pistons- A Special Comment by HD MM

Detroit has now lost 8 in a row and their 12th in 15 games. Forget the Pistons’ streak of six consecutive appearances in the Conference Finals. At their current pace, they’re in very real danger of missing the playoffs completely! How did this happen?

Sunday’s loss dropped the Pistons to .500 for the first time all year. The last two road loses puts them 2 games below .500. They could be five games under water in the blink of an eye. They still have to face the Magic and Celtics on their current road trip, and in their first game home they host Chauncey Billups and the Nuggets. If the playoffs started today, they would be on the outside looking in. The time to panic has long-since arrived!

Their core starting five with Billups, Hamilton, Prince, Wallace and Maxiell was a very solid team and has been for a long time. Why is a team with this much talent struggling?

Some blame the trade. Others, the inexperience new coach and his boneheaded decisions. One of them to bench Richard Hamilton for the ego-fragile Iverson. The results? Not so surprising.

Clearly Detroit still expected to compete this year. There are some fans who say the Billups/Iverson trade was done all for salary cap purposes. If that's the case, as a fan, I'd be screaming! Throwing away an entire season for monetary purposes?! Blasphamy!

But I don't think that's the case here. I think the Pistons still expected to compete. They took a risk. It's obvious the risk isn't working. But what can be done before it's too late? How will Dumars save a disappointing season? How will they build confidence for next season? They can't go out like this, can they? 6 straight Conference Championships are at stake!

If I was a fan, I could accept them not reaching the same milestones as years past. All good things must come to an end at some point. But the lack of heart is what kills me. A team with this much talent shouldn't be in this predicament. It's a sad, sad demise of a once proud Eastern Conference dynasty.

The backlash has started. RIP said yesterday he doesn't want to come off the bench anymore. He was fine with it if they were winning, but there not. I agree with this 100%. It was a dumb move made by a bone-head coach (RIP has his issues with Curry too.) AI should have been coming off the bench, where his creative style would have meshed better. Hamilton runs around screens and picks, and needs a PG to find him when he is open. He didn't have that coming off the bench. Meanwhile, the starters are starting to stand around whenever AI has the ball. He is definitely not meshing well with the starters. I knew the end was coming, just didn't expect it to fall apart like this. I'm seeing a lottery pick in our future.

A cycle that almost all teams go through. I have to agree with Paul and state that whether Billups was there or not....this team was getting old. Like I stated in another thread, this trade was made for TWO reason: 1) They needed scoring punch. 1a) They wanted to make a move to fresh to stir things up. 2) To dump contracts to make room for 2010. It has not worked out. Cleveland having a great start did not help either.

...I think ANYONE who thinks this team would be 15 games better with Billups in there INSTEAD of Iverson is on crack. The team has not performed up to the old Pistons standards.

Good post.

I'd like to see AI off the bench to see if that changes their fortune, but I think Curry is too afraid of him. If that did work, that would just give more validation to my thought that Curry is just in over his head.

They really would be better off missing the playoffs. The last time we where in the lottery, we ended up with the #2 pick. OK, Darko didn't work out, but Dumars is smart enough to do better this time around. Couple that with the cap space and we could rebuild the entire aging front court. This team hasn't had a true center since Ben Wallace left. (They were right to let him walk, he wasn't worth what he was asking. He hasn't been dominate since he left here, either.) Not having a "true center" has forced the Pistons to play 'Sheed out of position, and the wear and tear has become evident. Nazr Muhammed, Chris Webber, and Kwame Brown have all been busts.

No way this team would be 15 games better with Billups. Better? Yes. Just not 15 games worth. The real problem with the AI trade has been Curry not knowing how to use him properly.

They can sign "Starbury" for the minimum. If he doesn't work out, they can release him. It's his career on the line. Low risk - High reward. I don't see where the Celts can lose in this situation.
