MLB Trade deadline/rumors thread

Grabow's a solid reliever, and a bargain for the Sox as he's making just over a million this year. He's a guy that will put the clamps on with runners in scoring position. Through last season, batters his .222 against him with RISP. This year, they're hitting .150. So he's a guy who may be able to get teams out of tough spots in big games. Of course, playing for the Pirates, he's never been in a big game, so that's merely conjecture on my part.

Seeing Bay leave will suck, but at least the rumored return can justify it, plus the Pirates have enough outfielders that they could sufficiently fill the void. But Jack Wilson leaving would really hurt. He's a defensively sound shortstop and a much needed voice of optimism and experience in the clubhouse.

Manny will always be Manny. But the Red Sox won't be the same without Manny.
But with the way he has quit on his team and the crap he has been spouting they won't be the same with him either. Check out this gem from before tonight's game:

"The Red Sox don't deserve a player like me," Ramirez said in an interview with ESPNdeportes.com on Wednesday. "During my years here I've seen how they have mistreated other great players when they didn't want them to try to turn the fans against them."

Nail in the coffin.

Thanks for posting that Cosmo, that's the first time I saw that quote. What an ingrate!!

Must be really tough to be a fan of the team.

I'm an Oakland fan, but Billy Beane and his 'trade our top players' strategy is pissing me off.

Given how Baltimore hasn't done much in about a decade, I'm amazed you've stayed a fan.

Most Orioles fans have severed their ties due to Mr. Angelos' boneheadedness.

I'm too old to desert my O's. Been a fan of the team since '63 (I was only 7 years old at the time). Watched them win one of the biggest upsets in World Series History when they swept Sandy Koufax, Don Drysdale, and the Los Angeles Dodgers in '66 . . . . and then watched them lose one of the biggest upset when those stinkin' Mets beat them in 5 games in '69.

Love the O's. . . . . . and I absolutely love Camden Yards.

The Orioles had a better record (97 wins to LA's 95) and a better 1-through-9 lineup.

I wouildn't call it an all-time upset. Not exaclty Marlins over Yankees in '03.

I wouldn't call it an all-time upset now, but if you go back and look at the articles written by the wise men of baseball and the analysts, it was considered an all time upset at the time it happened.

Remember, the Dodgers had won the '63 and '65 World Series. They had proven pitchers in Drysdale and Koufax - who had just completed his best season by winning a career best 27 games and a career best 1.73 ERA. The O's were unproven, unknown underdogs to much of America.

For more on how this series was considered an upset, you might want to read Tom Adelman's Black and Blue: Sandy Koufax, The Robinson Boys, And The World Series That Stunned America.

I'm surprised the Phillies and Red Sox didn't make a deal. I heard (well say on this thread, I think) Burrell to the Sox and Manny to the Phillies.
I would like to say I'm screwed either way. I'm a Mets fan, so Manny goes to either the Marlins or the Phillies.

Speaking of Manny, I saw him hold up a sign that say, "I'm going to Green Bay for Brett Favre Straight Up."

Even Manny's sick and tired of this Favre story, as am I!

Mets,

don't worry about the Marlins (who I think is a very good young team) now that they have that malignancy on their hands.

Center Ice to be on Dish again this season.
