BREAKING: Both ESPN's Buster Olney and Jayson Stark are reporting that the Yankees have acquired from the Tigers C Ivan Rodriquez for P Kyle Farnsworth

ESPN - Yankees find their catcher for stretch, trade for Rodriguez - MLB

It seems the Tigers are waving the white flag just as the Guns of August are about to load up. A puzzling trade by Detroit when they are only 5 or so games back in the standings.

Yankee front office man Brian Cashman may or may not be a standout general manager, but no one can ever accuse him of not trying.

Oh! Oh! With the Angels (so far) taking 2-3 in Fenway this week and the Rays dancing about but not really sure of themselves yet, the Yankees once again feel like they can make a serious run @ October.

The AL East just got a whole lot more interesting and the swampy, murky, smelly AL Central is beginning to get clearer now.

"Steals"

There have been a number of supposed "steals" in trades so far this season. Yanks get Nady for next-to-nothing, Pudge comes to the Yanks for a washed up reliever, Tex goes to Anaheim for only 1 young prospect and 1 developing player.

It's an interesting trend....

WCVB-TV Boston is reporting (via reliable sources) that Manny will remain a member of the Red Sox this season, AND the Red Sox will pick up Ramirez's 2009 option, and THEN trade him in the offseason.

Well, at least we know he'll be gone eventually, so that's good news for you... I think.

He would still be a 10/5 player and as such would hold veto power over trades...

Buster Olney is saying that Manny is staying put and possibly traded after they pick up his option.

The Pudge-Farnsworth trade is "weird." Yankees could not lose bullpen help and did so for a catcher . . . just weird! On the other side, Inge is ready to be everyday catcher and it makes sense for Tigers who were lacking relief help.

I thought so too. The Yankees have been playing much better ball over the last month, and two of the biggest reasons are:

1) Farnsworth stepping up in the setup role
2) Jose Molina's handling of the pitching staff, including throwing out nearly 50% of would be base stealers

With that said, I think it's a great move for the Yankees, because if nothing else it extends their lineup and preserves Molina from breaking down. And I wouldn't be surprised if they added a reliever before 4 ET tomorrow.

Graziano's Latest: Schoeneweis, Rhodes, Pavano

By Tim Dierkes [July 30 at 6:51pm CST]

Here's a look at the fresh rumors from Dan Graziano of the Newark Star-Ledger.
  • The Yankees, Tigers, Rangers, and Rays have talked to the Mets about Scott Schoeneweis. The Mets might prefer to acquire a replacement if they move Schoeneweis. Arthur Rhodes is one possibility if he doesn't end up in Florida.
  • The Yanks might have to acquire a reliever now that they've dealt Kyle Farnsworth. Rhodes isn't on their radar though.
  • The Ivan Rodriguez trade could kick off other trades for catchers.
  • The Yankees have been getting calls on Carl Pavano. One unconfirmed rumor has the Mets interested.
Now the Yankees are getting calls on Carl Pavano??? Seriously, is there something in the water or are the Yankees hypnotizing the rest of the league???:eek::eek:

The Mets have got to be kidding me. Trade Schoenewis and then get Carl Pavano? Pavano hasn't pitched at all and Schoenewis has been ok with the Mets. What the hell are they going to do with Arthur Rhodes? He's Armando Benetiz, Mel Rojas, Jorge Julio all rolled up into one. What are the Mets thinking about?

This is VERY interesting:

More Marlins Moves?

by Will Carroll
I’m hearing that a multi-team deal involving Jason Bay and the Florida Marlins is in the “final stages.” This could involve the previously in-place dealings involving Manny Ramirez as reported by our own John Perrotto. Joe Frisaro of MLB.com thinks that Bay could end up in Boston, Jeremy Hermida in Pittsburgh, and prospects flying every which way. My sources agree, though I will update as details become clearer.

I'd like it if the Bucs got Hermida.

And you'd like it if the Sox got rid of Manny.

Everybody wins! (Except for the NL East, minus the Marlins)
