MLB 2013 Season

Not according to many sources on the web, including the LA Times...

Dodgers' benching of Yasiel Puig: Good move, bad follow-through

Those sources, as often with the media, are wrong.

Mattingly announced Puig would get a day off in FL before they went to FL. He even reiterated it today during the press conference.

Steve Lions had an entire discussion on how often his media colleagues are wrong and even brought up this as a specific example of them either flat out lying or drawing false conclusions.

ETA: After reading the whole article I couldn't help but laugh my arse off. The only quote or only evidence they have for the entire article was a phrase by Mattingly stating, "Simply baseball." Yeah. That proves he was benched for whatever false premise they claim.

Whether or not he should have been benched is a different question. Perhaps he should have been. But to assume he was bench just because he didn't start is a giant leap at best or a flat out lie at worst. Reminds me of the same reporting done by Michael Moore.

The Reds are taking Wainright to the woodshed. 9-0 in the second inning. He had only given up 12 runs the whole year.

Now that is what you call a really crappy performance. 75% of his previous annual run total in one game.

This is Lackey's second consecutive start where he pitches well but gets no run support.

It's been like that all year. The Red Sox score 5.61 runs per game, but when Lackey pitches they score 3.82 runs per game. Also, the Red Sox have been shutout 10 times this year, 6 of those were Lackey starts. And it's not like he's always going up against the opponent's best pitcher either.

The good news for the Red Sox is, Lackey isn't dumping on his teammates like he has in previous years.

Winning cures a lot of ills.... ;)

"Sure, I would like to have more wins than I have right now but that's not the goal," Lackey said. "The goal is for the team to win games. Tonight was a great win for us, the guys came back at the end. We're trying to make the playoffs, trying to do some special things. It's not about my individual wins."

Another quality no-decision for Lackey

The best pitching coach in the game.

LOS ANGELES -- Since 2006, the Dodgers have had seven hitting coaches, but the club has had only one pitching coach. In that time, the pitching coach's staff has the best cumulative team ERA in the Major Leagues.

<snip>

During the club's historic turnaround this summer, the pitching has been consistently breathtaking. Since July 26, starters are 20-5 with a 1.93 ERA. Since the All-Star break, the bullpen has a 2.06 ERA. The August ERA of 2.11 is the sixth lowest in Los Angeles history.

I realize there's a month left in the season, but you could make a serious argument for Shane Victorino as Red Sox MVP!
