MLB 2013 Season

There's conventional baseball strategy and there's common sense. It's understandable at his age to be lacking in the former, but not the latter....

He's from another country and has no clue about the subtleties of MLB. He didn't play in the minors long enough to learn.

It truly is ignorance. He watches the veterans go casual at times and mimics them. He just doesn't know when. This is why he gets disciplined. These are things you would see in the minors that he never learned.

Nolasco pitched his best game as a Dodger. Had an Ace like performance.

8 IP
3 H
1 BB
11 K
0 R

In his 10 starts with the Dodgers he is 6-1 with a 2.20 ERA.

Nolasco is challenging Ryu for the #3 starting spot in the playoffs (if they go.)

I still predict Ryu will get rookie of the year

If it is Nolasco over Ryu, they may have Greinke take the #1 spot and Kershaw #2 just to break up the righties. If it is Ryu, then it will go Kersgaw (L), Greinke (R), Ryu (L).

Xander Bogaerts gets the nod at 3B tonight. I have to say, Farrell has been doing a great job keeping everyone involved at 3B/SS (Middlebrooks/Drew/Bogaerts) and LF/1B (Gomes/Nava/Napoli/Carp).

Now that I got a chance to actually watch the game rather than listening to it in a hospital waiting room I see why Mattingly pulled Puig. He seemed to not be very enthusiastic throughout the game and made some boneheaded plays/decisions.

Looking at these Sox players, I think Brian Wilson would be a good fit on this team.

You may be on to something. Gonzalez and Crawford were not good fits despite their hefty salaries, and the Sox had their two most forgettable seasons in a decade in their year and a half in Boston. OTOH, Brian Wilson is a proven winner, being a big part of a championship team in 2011. Too bad Wilson wasn't a member of the Dodgers last August, maybe he could have been a part of the Nick Punto trade and come East! :)

My only bitch about Wilson (other than his being a real nail-biter as a closer) is that he acted as if he were bigger than the Game during the Giants' run for the championship. Perhaps his injury and down-time cooled the ego somewhat.

It's a beard brotherhood, where Wilson will be King Beard.

Just like the recent game he was benched, but called upon to pinch hit?? Was that a teaching moment too??

No because he wasn't benched. It was a planned day off. This was the first time he was benched.

Puig admitted pulling him was the right thing to do. He admitted he wasn't completely focused today.

Ethier was benched earlier in the year for the same reason, and his attitude completely changed.

Not according to many sources on the web, including the LA Times...

Mattingly initially said the reason for the benching was "simply baseball," but it was anything but simple. It was part educational, part punitive, and 100% necessary. It was the Dodgers attempting to teach Puig that, even at its most dazzling, imprudent play has inherent consequences.
