MLB 2013 Season

I thought that the Baseball Gods would lay off of the Mets once they got rid of Omar and his less-than-desirable ways of GMing a club. But it seems like their woes just go on and on. Sorry to hear that. I like Harvey.

I hated to hear about Harvey too. I liked his power pitching. It had to remind Mets fans of Tom Seaver just a little bit.

Red Sox will play 16 of their next 19 games away from Fenway. The Sox will go to Houston for 3, Kansas City for 4 and Toronto for 3, before coming home to play the Yankees for 3. After the Yankee series, the Sox will go on an interleague West Coast trip to San Francisco for 3 and Los Angeles for 3. When this stretch is over, there will be only 30 games remaining in the regular season.

Now here we are. The Sox went 9-10 during that stretch, hardly great but I'll take it. They come home 1.5 games ahead of Tampa Bay, and now play 18 of their next 25 at the Friendly Confines. Then they conclude their regular season with a weird road trip: 2 in Colorado and 3 in Baltimore. Speaking of the Orioles, they play a big part in the Sox pursuit of the playoffs. The Sox and O's play 9 times, including 6 games at Fenway.

Red Sox schedule the rest of the way:

August 27, 28, 29- BALTIMORE
Aug. 30, 31, Sept. 1- CHICAGO WS
Sept. 2, 3, 4- DETROIT
Sept. 5, 6, 7, 8- @ NY Yankees
Sept. 10, 11, 12- @ Tampa Bay
Sept. 13, 14, 15- NY YANKEES
Sept. 17, 18, 19- BALTIMORE
Sept. 20, 21, 22- TORONTO
Sept. 24, 25- @ Colorado
Sept. 27, 28, 29- @ Baltimore

A few observations: a lot of home games, a lot of division games (but only 3 left with the Rays), starting tonight they play 13 straights days, but then have four off days over the last three weeks.

Your boys sure looked good when they were in L.A. last weekend. BTW Bill, what's your take on Jacoby? Think he'll be back in a Red Sox uni next season?

Oooh! Oooh! My middle name's Bill! The answer is..... No. Since the Red Sox have a center fielder who they believe is ready for the bigs, that makes Ellsbury worth more to a team that doesn't have one in its development pipeline. Jacoby will not be giving the Red Sox a home team discount, as he has been pissed on by the fans and the press when he was genuinely injured, and he is not a cuddly guy by nature. When he was rehabbing, he didn't travel with the team or stay in touch with his teammates. He is a very much a 25 guys, 25 cabs guy.

I think he's gone too. Main reason: his agent, $cott Bora$

I can see him moving down the coast to NY. They need an outfielder, will have freed up some payroll, and Ellsbury probably won't mind sticking it to the Sox.

Pitching Matchups for the Orioles-Red Sox series.....

Tonight: Wei-Yin Chen (7-6, 3.17) vs. Felix Doubront (9-6, 3.79)
Wednesday: Bud Norris (9-10, 4.22) vs. John Lackey (8-11, 3.17)
Thursday: Chris Tillman (14-4, 3.66) vs. Jon Lester (12-7, 3.97)

Blink job:

From ESPN.com: Shane Victorino's 378-foot home run in the third inning left Fenway Park in 3.03 seconds. It's tied for the second fastest a home run has left a ballpark this season.

Kershaw ain't got it going at all. Looks like the will end up being his first really bad game in a long time.

The first fours batters so far have yet to swing and miss a single pitch. The first batter was out on a great play by Uribe. The second batter worked a full count and singled. The third batter worked a full count and walked. All of them fouled off a lot of pitches.

This is against a weak hitting Cub reserve team. Many of the starters are sitting.

ETA: after I type this he strikes out the next two batters. Made a ton of pitches though.

Kershaw stunk it up big time. Was only able to go 5 2/3 innings against an awful hitting Cubs team.

Made 107 pitched in less than 6 innings
3 BB
9 K
7 hits
2 runs
1 ER

Leaves losing 2-0. Cannot win.

Of course, as usual, no run support.

Dodgers surpass 3 million fans today. Of course they have drawn 3 million fans more seasons than any other team. No team is even close to them in the number of times they have drawn 3 million.
