MLB 2013 Season

It is a good thing for the Red Sox that there will be two wild card teams this year because in spite of their serendipitous season to date, they are only three and a half games ahead of red hot Tampa Bay and just two games ahead of AL West Division runner up Texas, and Texas will be playing half of its September games against doormats.

Derek Jeter is making his season debut in the Bronx this afternoon. Jeter will be the DH and bat second against the Royals.

Looking over Tampa Bay's recent hot stretch of having won eleven out of their last twelve games, I see that eight of their eleven wins were at home, and the only three road wins were against doormat Houston. Nice run, but not proof that they have become a juggernaut.

They are still are, IMO, the team to beat in the AL East. Again, there are no great teams in this division, but no pushovers either. It's easily the best division in MLB, and the Rays have the best pitching.

Wow, Puig didnt get the final vote? Somewhat surprising. As far as Puig goes, I think it was wrong for him to ignore Gonzalez. You have to show respect. I do find it somewhat surprising that McGwire was the one who scolded him considering the fact what McGwire has done. He's not exactly a choir boy.

Well, Jeter is back. I hope the Yankee fans can pipe down now. I mean I'm sick of hearing Yankee fans complain about there team like its, well, the Mets. You should hear them. "The team is too old" "Trade Teixiera" "Trade this guy..."
"Trade that guy..." I mean you would think the Yankees record was that of the Astros or the Marlins.

With the kind of arrogance he's been displaying, it's really not surprising that he didn't get the vote.

Which doesn't exactly rank up there with Charles Barkley repeatedly criticizing Allen Iverson for his off court behavior, or with John McEnroe criticizing anyone.

I remember one reporter saying why he didn't like Barry Bonds. When Bonds was a rookie, the reporter walked up to him in spring training and introduced himself and stuck out his hand and said, "Hi. I'm Joe Reporter" and Bonds said, "So?" and turned and walked away.

The only thing worse than the media making assumptions about him winning the final vote, is the criticism of Puig. Guys, yes it was rude to ignore Gonzalez. Yes, he goes all out on everything which can annoy the other team. But to compare him to Bonds, Barkley, and others is a bit premature. He is young, from a totally different culture, has not had a chance in the minors to learn about the unwritten rules of the game and how to approach each situation, is under a lot of medial spotlight, and has a lot of learning to do. I have a feeling if he played for your team you would not be so critical.

Heck, if he played for an east coast team, this thread will probably be 10 pages longer than it currently is.

And he probably still will get into the All Star game.

It doesn't surprise me that he didn't win the final vote. Freeman had people voting for him. Puig had people voting for him and against him. Many people think that Puig should not even be considered.

I agree with this. This a very talented, but young kid. Let's give him the benefit of the doubt before we condemn him for any perceived immature behavior.

But this is where you lose me. Jose Iglesias is also a very talented rookie that's putting up great numbers. There are at least four Red Sox fans that regularly post here, but yet I don't see the love fest that I see for Puig on here. Last time I checked, Boston is an East Coast team. BTW, I'm not knocking you for your Puig affinity, but I disagree that it would be any more (at least on this forum) if he played in NY, Boston, Philly, etc.

Ted Williams can now rest in peace. From yesterday's box scores:

Hitters AB R H RBI BB SO AVG OBP SLG
Y Puig RF 7 1 1 0 0 3 .394 .428 .634
J Iglesias SS 3 0 1 1 0 0 .387 .440 .491

Puig is back to over .400 again.

I watched Bonds come up from the minors to the arrogant jerk he was when he left the Pirates and Bonds wasn't as arrogant as Puig is at this stage of his career, he will only get worse. With all this media coverage plus playing in the 2nd largest market his ego will be worse then Bonds which is a hard thing to accomplish.

Heck, if he played for an east coast team, this thread will probably be 10 pages longer than it currently is.

Pedro Alvarez has more HRs then any NL 3rd basemen, Jeff Locke and Francisco Liriano is close to being considered a Cy young candidate, Jason Grilli has the most saves in the NL and Gerrit Cole is having a great start plus add Andrew McCutchen, Starling Marte and Russell Martin, they are having a good year and are helping the Pirates to this great season, which I hope they don't collapse like last year, but I don't post everyday about them and if Puig was a Pirate, I'm glad he isn't, I wouldn't post everyday about him either.

I'm not telling you how or when to post or to what to post about but you shouldn't be telling people what they would do if he would play for one of our teams.

Leyland yelling at Bonds in 1992 because he yelled at a reporter, Bonds was a arrogant jerk who could step up and win the big game.

Warning NSFW, a lot of swearing.

No he won't. Jay Bruce deserves to go before him. Bruce Bochey already said pretty much that he would be the first to replace an injured player.

I know I didn't vote for him. I voted for Freddie Freeman.

I think fans are getting tired of the "Puigmania", I know I am.
Exactly my point. So many people voted against him by voting for someone else. People that normally probably would not have voted at all. People whom believe he is arrogant, but yet have not seen him play a single game.

I can tell you now after watching every single minute of him playing. He is NOT arrogant. Far from it. He is young, aggressive, immature, and is learning quickly. In fact, I have never seen such progress made in such a short time from any player....ever. If you compare his first week to this last week, the guy has grown more than any player I have ever seen.
