MLB 2013 Season

Only the Reds third pitcher to throw two no hitters. Jim Maloney and Johnny Vander Meer were the others. He will go after Vander Meers back to back record this weekend against the Mariners. This was also the first no hitter pitched at GABP. Homer once called GABP a little league park. I wonder if he likes it better now. :D

Vander Meer's record will never be broken in my opinion. It may be tied someday but never broken.

I think the HR Derby would be the perfect place for Puig this year. That event needs an attraction since all the big-name players don't participate any more...
Hitters like Puig never do good in HR derbies, for the same reason Piazza and Kemp don't do well in them. They are opposite field power hitters that wait until the ball gets deep into the hitting zone. They require pitches outside, low, and off the plate. They seldom hit HRs during batting practice.

But it is not the hardest record in baseball to break. Fernando Tatis once hit two grand slams in one inning. As far as I know, no one has ever had three at bats with the bases loaded in each in one inning, which is what they'd need to even have an opportunity to break that record.

We can argue stuff like that all day long. I still stand by what I said as the toughest to break.

Even more amazing is that both were against the same pitcher.

But, it could happen. Cal Ripken's consecutive games played streak is one that will never be broken. Shoot, even DHs like David Ortiz are given games off to rest, so there's absolutely no chance a position player will break it.

Wikipedia shows that as of June 25, 2013, the current player with the longest active Major League consecutive games streak is Prince Fielder of the Detroit Tigers with 417. He's only got about another 13 years to go... ;)

This latest flack about Puig and the All-Star is so ridiculous. This game needs to promote new stars and idiots like Papal-bum, bitching about the possibility of making the All-Star game....does not hurt.

I agree with him.

Lets say Nick Castallonos gets called up by the Tigers tomorrow and hits the hell out of the ball , like Puig and he's hitting that way into the ASG, are we gonna tout him for the ASG ?

I doubt it and he may be even better than Puig, no one knows for sure.

I typically won't vote a player in that has only played part of the season, Puig has only played what a third of the season and your gonna put him in over someone thats been there all along and doing well ?

Even if that player puts up better numbers in one month than some of the reserve players have put up all year, just because he only played two months instead of 1/2 a season?

We are not talking about replacing a Carlos Gonzalez or top outfielder with Puig, we are talking about replacing a last minute reserve with comparable numbers over a longer period of time.

Looking at this picture this is something I have to say. I notice that just about every athlete now wears those magnetic wrist bands. I cannot believe how many people will jump on pseudoscience bandwagons thinking they actually work.

We probably will not have to worry about Puig making the All Star game now. He just injured himself making a good catch running into the wall and he has been down a while.

The Red Sox win in yet another walk off. I'm starting to believe that this team may be on the cusp of doing something special in 2013. With EVERY team in baseball being flawed in one way or another, this Sox team has as good a shot as any.
