MLB 2013 Season

Last year, the Red Sox were overloaded with closer material with Bailey, Melancon and Bard, but had to turn to Aceves by game 3, and this year they are loaded with Bailey, Hanrahan and Mortenson yet may yet have to again turn to Aceves... or call Wakefield out of retirement.

The Marlins, whose attendance ranks last in the National League five weeks into the season, have decided to close the upper bowl at Marlins Park for at least some weeknight games – an approach the team used at times at Sun Life Stadium.

The upper bowl will be closed for six dates in the team’s nine-game homestand that begins next Tuesday. Fans can sit only in the lower bowl for games May 14-16 against Cincinnati and May 20-22 against Philadelphia. The upper bowl will remain open for May 17-19 games against Arizona.

Marlins representative P.J. Loyello said the team has not decided whether to close the upper bowl for all Monday through Thursday home games, and decisions will be made before each home stand.

Something must be done with Angel Hernandez after that horribly blown call last night and his despicable attitude in its aftermath. He has got to be the most controversial ump in the league. If there is a brouhaha you can almost bet Angel is involved in it.

This was the first time that the umps blew a call from replay. I don't know what they were looking at, but everyone else saw that replay and instantly knew it was a HR.

BTW, I was listening to MLB Radio on XM this morning and they were interviewing Jim McKean, the former head supervisor of the umps. He stated that Hernandez is the most accurate umpire when it comes to calling balls and strikes and has the highest percentage of correct calls to missed calls. He went on to say that he is the weakest ump when it comes to demeanor and management. He said his call accuracy is why he is always picked to do playoff games, but is poor management is why he will never make crew chief.

The Ump said that from the TV they had to look at, it looked like a double.

What, they don't have HD TV sets there and an HD feed ?

Ya gotta think they have at the very LEAST, the same as the TV people in the truck.

Maybe they had Dish feeds and it was a game it broadcast in HD? Lol
