MLB 2013 Season

There was a two year stretch in Sandy Koufax career where he was 18-4 in games in which his teammates scored 2 or FEWER runs. He won 18 games by scores of 2-1, 2-0 or 1-0.

When Bob Gibson had his season for eternity with an ERA of 1.12, he pitched 13 complete game shutouts, but in his other starts, when his ERA was "only" 1.89, he lost 9 of those games, going 9-9.

Michael Young is now coming up for his first Dodger AB.

And he strikes out on 3 pitches.

5k feet in elevation is not all that high, but the effect it has on breaking balls is pretty profound.

Was that before or after that changed the mound ?

Problem is, All NL teams play there, Kershaw has pitched there before I would guess.

I think your awful hard on your Star pitcher there, expecting Perfection each time out makes life miserable.

If you can't handle him not being perfect, the Tigers will gladly take him off your hands.

Verlander, Kershaw, Scherzer, Sanchez, makes one hell of a rotation, even better than it already is !

Don't forget Fister. Everytime I see that dude pitch, he's phenomenal (today included)!!

Your right, Fister has also been pitching very well.

Add Fister as the #5, Porcello and Smiley in the pen ... Fister would end up in the pen during the playoffs if everything went the way they should, thats provided Verlander comes around, the other day was a excellent start with nothing to show for it.

He's probably had about 5 starts this year that were considered Very good and didn't get the win.

I call it like it is.

When he doesn't pitch like a star, I will make it known. When he does, I will also make it known.

In fact I recall the discussion we had where I was stating Kershaw is the best in the game.

I'm not one of those fans that thinks my team can never do wrong. I am as objective as possible. Praise when it's deserved and criticism when it's also deserved.

One point of correction. That rotation you listed, Kershaw will be #1 and Verlander #3. ;).

LMAO......I was waiting for this response!! :)

People often do wait for the truth to be posted. :)

Verlander is not even the best on the Tigers anymore. There always comes a time when someone else takes over the reins.

Stop it, please!! Yes, Scherzer is having a better year than Verlander THIS YEAR, but to say he has supplanted JV as the ace on the Tigers staff is crazy!!

Lemme ask you a question, if Greinke had better stats than Kershaw this year, would you say he is the Dodgers ace?

Dodgers will be going with a 6 man rotation for a while. Volquez is staring on Wednesday.

Was that before or after that changed the mound ?

Before. Koufax retired after the 1966 season, and I think they "lowered" the mound from 15" to 10" in 1969. I remember a trigonometry teacher pointing out that if you lower the mound, the ball gets to the batter even faster because the distance from the release point to home plate is reduced...

I remember Luis Tiant always complained about the mound at the old County Stadium in Milwaukee. He always claimed it was lower than any other AL ballpark.

It was said in tongue and cheek, hence the smiley.

To answer your question. Greinke is already one of there three aces and is currently pitching in the #1 spot in the rotation. Depending on how the playoffs are set up, he could even get the opening start as well.

I can guarantee if the Tigers happen to sign Kershaw, he will take the #1 spot from Verlander.

The 2 runs he drove in did allow him to steel a win.
