I think he will help Detriot in the short term, but this is one of if not the most ridiculous contracts in all of sports.

ESPN Insider's Dan Szymborski used his ZiPS projection system to forecast Prince Fielder's production in Detroit over the life of his nine-year deal.

Code:
YR	BA	OBP	SLG	HR	RBI
'12	.275	.394	.504	33	97
'13	.273	.394	.504	32	96
'14	.272	.390	.496	31	94
'15	.266	.383	.479	29	88
'16	.262	.374	.462	26	82
'17	.259	.369	.440	22	74
'18	.255	.361	.424	20	69
'19	.253	.351	.415	18	63
'20	.248	.338	.388	13	50

Are those numbers worth $214M??

Detroit Tigers come to the rescue for Prince Fielder - ESPN

Relax. I'm not complaining, on the contrary actually.

I'm truly happy for the Tigers and their fans. I'm also happy that the competitive playing field is narrowing. :)

You're happy that the rich are getting richer and the poor, poorer? I like sports better when everyone has a shot, not just a "narrow field" of teams.

That's because our baseball teams among other baseball teams can't compete with the big teams year after year.

Seems to me that football and hockey are the only supports were players can make the same in any city.

I do agree with you.

What does his system project for Pujols?

I am just glad he is out of the NL Central, along with Mr. Pujols. :D

Well it's been a bit now and as a tiger fan I have had some time to take this in. When I heard about it yesterday afternoon I was excited I had wondered about fielder a couple weeks ago but because I the long term deal did not think it would happen. While I like that we signed fielder, I hope the contract in years 6,7 and so on don't put the ball club in a bad position. Many of my friends stated over the past hours glad I got my tickets now, I know they were thinking about ticket prices as well. I hope the cost doesn't get passed on to the fan to much as we see ticket prices jump and hopefully this does not cause fox sports Detroit to be an issue as well.

I know mr illitch wants a world series bad, he has said he would trade in a few Stanley cups for a world series. I hope he gets his wish! And I hope we as fans can celebrate again I Hope this does not become another "bad contract"

Ready to start the best sports thread there is, The Al central thread :)

Go tigers :)

I was excited too...but 200 Bazillion dollars is a lot of money. Prince had better hit .300 and belt 40 homers each year.

Question: Was the Tigers acquision of Prince Fielder a good or bad move?

Offhand, I would say it was a good short-term move. However, long-term I get the feeling the Tigers will regret their decision. We shall see...

Thoughts?

I think TO ME, it depends if the Tigers were able to convince Boras NOT to include a no trade clause. IF it's there...he better produce AT LEAST 6 out of the 9 years, IMHO.

Exactly. I just don't think Fielder has a long shelf-life...but hopefully I'm wrong.

Yeah, this definitely has potential for someone to be looking at this down the road and say 'what on earth were they thinking'? Unless they have two championships by then, and the point becomes moot.

Sandra

My fear is that Fielder will report to Spring Training looking all fat and sloppy...wait, never mind. :)

Seriously, my first question was, "Why make this guy a quarter billionaire when they have Victor Martinez?" I had no idea Martinez is going to miss next season with a torn ACL. What happened?

Anyway, anything less than two World Series Championships during the reign of King Fielder (you're no longer a Prince when you're making 200M+) will be considered a failure.

What, the AROD contracts were worse yet.

All ya gotta do is be able to spend some money ....

Detroit Tigers went a LONG time not being able to do that, now that they can, they are.

Thank You Mr. I !
