Makes no sense. Who did they buy? They do nothing like the Yankees and red sox. This is the biggest signing ever or this team. Cabrera came here on a trade and verlander is home grown. Stop it already.
Cabrera signed an 8-year, $160M contract extension with the Tigers after the trade in 2008.

He will be the full time 3rd baseman in 2013. They don't have to worry about it this year. He can play 3rd Sh and 1st.

I don't think he is capable of playing 3rd anymore. He is no longer the quick and agile guy he used to be.

He was not that quick and agile when he was a thin Marlin...lol!

Which will come 1st, 600 combined HRs or 600 combined pounds!

Where DO the Detroit Tiger's get all this money???!!! That city is as poor as dirt!

But the owner, Mr. Illitch isn't ...
He built the Red Wings and is building the Tigers as well.

That's kinda the way I look at it as well .... however, people say /rera isn't a good 1b men, but if you watch him, he's come a long ways defensivly, that said, I don't know if he has the arm to play 3b, guess well see..... I really liked him at 1st.

I realize that BOTH Cabrera and Fielder won't be on the AL All-Star ballot for 1B, but just imagine if they were.

Teixera, Gonzalez, Morneau, Cabrera and now Pujols and Fielder. WOW!!!

Well it's been a bit now and as a tiger fan I have had some time to take this in. When I heard about it yesterday afternoon I was excited I had wondered about fielder a couple weeks ago but because I the long term deal did not think it would happen. While I like that we signed fielder, I hope the contract in years 6,7 and so on don't put the ball club in a bad position. Many of my friends stated over the past hours glad I got my tickets now, I know they were thinking about ticket prices as well. I hope the cost doesn't get passed on to the fan to much as we see ticket prices jump and hopefully this does not cause fox sports Detroit to be an issue as well.

I know mr illitch wants a world series bad, he has said he would trade in a few Stanley cups for a world series. I hope he gets his wish! And I hope we as fans can celebrate again I Hope this does not become another "bad contract"

Ready to start the best sports thread there is, The Al central thread :)

Go tigers :)

I wonder what team, if any, the Tigers were bidding against to go that high??

Well... the rumor was the Nationals had him in their sights as well as... you ready? The Orioles and the Mariners. There was whispers about the Rangers....but there was no smoke that lead to a fire.

Damn... I am cliche-ville today...

Sorry Cosmo...:o

I think he will help Detriot in the short term, but this is one of if not the most ridiculous contracts in all of sports.

Yeah, this definitely has potential for someone to be looking at this down the road and say 'what on earth were they thinking'? Unless they have two championships by then, and the point becomes moot.
