There is a very good article about the "winner and losers" in the Albert Pujols sweepstakes on Yahoo!

Funniest point was below in the losers bracket:

"Jim Crane and the Houston Astros: Just when the fans at Minute Maid Park thought they were getting away from Albert's big bat, they find out they'll be reunited in the AL West come 2013. Can Crane apply for a bigger break on his purchase price?"

Now would be a GREAT time for the Marlins to offer pissed off Hanely for power hitting lefty, Kendry Morales(1b and ALSO a local kid of Cuban family). Then send Gabby Sanchez to Oakland for Gio Gonzalez. Since the Marlins would not have a legit 3rd basemen, package a deal with Chris Volstad and Omar Infante to Texas for Michael Young. Then go hard after Cespedes. The team would look like this:

Fielding Line-up

c - Buck
1b - Morales
2b - Coughlan/Bonafacio
ss - Reyes
3b - Young
LF - Morrison
CF - Cespedes
RF - Staton

Starting pitching:

Josh Johnson
Mark Buerle
Anibel Sanchez
Gio Gonzalez
Ricky Nolasco

Hitting line-up

Reyes
Coughlin/Bonafacio
Morrison
Morales
Staton
Cespedes
Young
Buck

THAT line-up would be just as awesome as just about anyones in the NL.

They don't have tht much money to sign all of them.
Cespedes is going to Detroit if the the yanks don't jump in.

The Angels lay low and have not made a sound all off season, not even a hint. Then in one they they sneak up and land the best offensive player in baseball and one of the most sought after free agent pitchers.

Much like Dombrowski worked the Cabrera deal.

Jim.... MOST of the transaction I mentioned in my post were trades! Now that they are out of the Pujols deal, they have more than enough money to sign Cespedes. All indication is he want to come here due to the proximity of Cuba and the huge Cuban community. The Marlins will definately be involved in those negociations.

AT the present moment, NO ONE can truly say that "they don't have that much money" ...because they apparently do.

LOL right at the end of the baseball season, after Bunt and Drop Out Reyes won the batting title, speculation here went like this:

Reyes signs with the Marlins, Hanley Ramiirez gets mad and is traded to the Mets for David Wright. Well the first two things happened so far!!!

I would take that trade...

Forget about Pujols, the starting rotation of Weaver/Haren/Santana/Wilson is far and away the best in the AL. IMO, only the Rays come close.

Not sure what Ramirez's contract status is, but I think what they said at the time was that Wright has two years left on his contract but an opt-out clause after one year if he's traded.

That means Florida would only have him under contract for one year...but what the heck, they can throw another $160 million at Wright and not even bat an eyelash these days!

I hope this Marlin money stands the test of time...

I believe my post came Before the Pujols deal came down and before they pulled out.

When you have the money these guys have, Cuba is only an hour or so away, regardless.

For some reason you think that a Cuban player HAS to sign with Miami, I think theres plenty of Cuban players elsewhere.

They'll be out of money in a few years and trade the team away.

Fans won't be coming once Reyes goes into his pouting funk when he's not hitting.

Ramirez contract is through the 2013 season...so they are almost the same.

As as far as the money..it wiil be there. As of right now, only the Ramirez, Reyes, Bell and Buerle contract go past 2013...

I did not say he HAS to sign with Miami, I said he WANTS to sign in Miami ...and alot has to do with him having family and friends here in Miami and the large Cuban community down here.

Alot of folks that leave Cuba want to come here because they are a stones throw away from "home" and still maintain some sense of the Cuban culture...that is what I am getting at. Especially those that have little to no family in the US.

Tigers sign Octavio Dotel today.

The Tigers now have righties Jose Valverde, Joaquin Benoit, Al Alburquerque, and Dotel at the back end of their bullpen.

That is fine that you think that...but before, they had the worst lease deal of ANY professional team that had to share the facility. Now, all the profits come to the team, not the Dolphins and their ownership.

Do they still get the hand outs from the Luxury tax payers ?
Didn't they get thier hand out this year ?

Now look, all that money that they have been handed they go out and buy players, why didn't they do that for the last 10 years of hand outs.

What I'm getting at is, the owners had money coming in and refused to spend it.

No...the Marlins did not have thia money. They were getting somewhere in the $15 million dollar range of luxury tax money...but they were NOT getting:

- all of the monies from the sold skyboxes(though not completely divulged, it was stated they kept half)
- no consession monies
- partial parking monies
- partial monies from non food items sold

Now, they keep all of those monies...

The Marlins were forced to spend more last year because they weren't 'properly using' the luxury tax money.

And oh yes, because of last year, they get one more year of that luxury tax money.

The Marlins were not poor, that's for sure...
