@ Rey.. Please correct me as am trying to fill in the blanks. The Marlins' got a tax funded new ball park but I keep reading 2.4 billion$ (surely not the cost of the park). Where does this figure come from? Why is there an investigation?

This reminds me the Expos had a lease on some prime real-estate...literally in the centre of downtown Montreal, ie- Office highrises, major hotels and top notch shopping and dining across all 4 corners...when I say perfect, most professional sports teams would be drooling over such a centered location.

Loria came in, had a firesale, terminated TV broadcasting, let the property go, sold the team to MLB and high ass'ed it to Florida with everything including office furniture, scouting reports from the 60s and the uniforms. Team was gone 2 years later

Cheers, K

The cost of the stadium was approx. $625 millions ..give or take a million.

hey kraven. here's an article from SI with a couple of figures towards the end of it.http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writers/michael_rosenberg/11/14/miami-marlins/index.html

Loria used tax payer money to finance the new stadium. something i was completely against at the time but who cares what i think :/

here's a little more to read http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/...-cannot-justify-trade-should-sell-team-111312 a few more figures there. its about what salsa posted $$$....

Well...Stanton is not eligible for arbitration for another 2 years...so they won't trade him, YET....

I AM SOOOO upset right now. You guys have no idea.

BTW, to salsa and all Marlins fans, I did not mean to be smug yesterday with my comment re: Giancarlo coming home to SoCal to play. I apologize if it was taken that way. BELIEVE ME, I feel your pain and I wish the Marlins franchise all the best in the future. It just reinforces how good we have it here in SoCal with all three teams now under sound and solid ownership with deep, willing-to-spend pockets. I think we will see the Angels, Dodgers and Padres all be worthy pennant contenders for many years to come. GOOD LUCK, MIAMI!!!!!

Was not taken that way at At ALL. ;)

I gotta get off this subject. i'm nowhere near the fan salsa is of the marlins so if i'm this pissed i can't imagine how he feels.

So livid that I am not ashamed to admit I almost cried. I have NEVER been more pissed with ANY of my teams than this one. More than likely because I was STUPID enough to invest $$$ in partial season tickets.

I am DYING for the call from the Sales office requesting if I plan on buying another ticket package. IF this team would have stayed the same, I would have invested because I really thought they were just in a 1 year funk.

I am going to DEMAND either a promise of a PLAYOFF competitve team(which I know for a fact I will never get) or talk to that Pigmy President Sampson PERSONALLY! No yeling, no screaming and I will tell them in ADVANCE that I will be recording the phone call "for quality purposes".

From MLB Trade Rumors:

Afternoon Updates

•MLB hasn't received official documentation for the trade, Yahoo's Tim Brown reports (on Twitter). The cash headed to Toronto could be at least double the $4MM initially reported, according to Brown.

•Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria told Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com that the trade was justified. "We finished in last place. Figure it out," he said. Loria added that he's "absolutely not" selling the Marlins. "We have to take a new course," the owner said.

Reaction To Marlins Ownership
•Loria and president David Samson are destroying baseball in Miami, but commissioner Bud Selig shares blame with the pair of Miami executives in the view of Yahoo's Jeff Passan. Selig knew the Marlins were lying last year but let them continue, Passan writes.
•After looking back at recent comments made by Loria, Samson and others, ESPN.com's Buster Olney finds it hard to view the Marlins' decision making "as anything other than a complete sham." There are calls for MLB to force Loria to sell the team, Olney writes. However, baseball executives think the deal was good for Miami from a pure baseball standpoint (considering talent and salary obligations).
•The trade is "a despicable disgrace" for the Marlins, Scott Miller of CBSSports.com writes. The Marlins obtained a publicly funded ballpark only to trade their top players. Loria, Miller concludes, "must be stopped."
•It's the same tired act in Miami, Tyler Kepner of the New York Times writes. Former Marlins reliever Randy Choate told Kepner Loria wants to win, but questioned this trade. "It’s just unexplainable,” Choate said. “I don’t think any of those guys would have signed there if they thought they’d get traded one year later."

Great...

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [November 14 at 1:40pm CST]

The Marlins aren’t done yet. One day after agreeing to a blockbuster trade with the Blue Jays, they’re shopping outfielder/first baseman Logan Morrison, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post (on Twitter). Furthermore, several general managers expect Ricky Nolasco to be traded as well.

The Yankees are among the teams with an interest in Nolasco, Erik Boland of Newsday reports (on Twitter). The right-hander has one year and $11.5MM remaining on his contract with Miami. The Rockies had interest in Nolasco last winter and could inquire about him, Troy Renck of the Denver Post suggested this morning (on Twitter).

The Marlins do not intend to trade Giancarlo Stanton, MLB.com's Joe Frisaro reports. The sides are not currently discussing a long-term deal, but the slugger "pretty much remains untouchable" for 2013, according to Frisaro

at the end of it all i hope his plan is to sell the team. marlins would be better off since this guy is also "secretly" the GM.

As for the Marlins .... I think maybe they should disban the team if no one wants to BUY it, Loria should be told to sell by a certain date or the team will be available in a Draft type situation where the teams can draft players.

Little surprised they got Tori Hunter. Hes good but he is getting up there in age. Btw, they are not resigning Delmon Young? Im surprised considering how well he did against the Yankees.

I havent paid too much attention to this Marlins trade and whatnot but basically what happened was that Loria basically lied to the players and people of Miami to get a new stadium? Thats what it seems like to me. How about when he told Heyman "We were in last place. Figure it out." Nasty little comment there, wasnt it?

You know, even though Reyes and Johnson etc. are going to Toronto, they should get everything coming to them, money wise. I still dont understand how this trade happens. What about all the money Reyes, Johnson etc. are owed by the Marlins?
