Still early, I know, but those pitiful Pirates are looking good so far. Neil Walker hit HR #2 to lead the Pirates over the Cards 3-1. Buccos are 2 for 2 in series wins, and on the road. :)

Won't last long.

Oh thee of little faith. However, I know where you're coming from...been there, done that. Still, I can't keep from hoping at the beginning of each season for a miracle.

I don't think any 0-4 teams have either.

Skewed stat because so few teams start out 0-5 period.

In major league history, which dates to 1871, 110 teams have started a season 0-5. Just two of those 110 went on to make the postseason, less than two percent. Those two teams were the 1974 Pirates and 1995 Reds, both of whom actually started their seasons 0-6. Thirty-nine teams extended their season-opening losing streaks to seven games. Only one of those clubs finished as high as third place.
Less than one a year on average, and also most were before more postseason opportunites were created by splitting into multiple divisions and adding the wildcard...

Here's what's gonna happen...the Sox lose today to start out 0-6...just in time for the Yankees to come to town tomorrow. The crowd wants to send their team up the river.

Then they sweep the Yankees, and Sox fans are right back to talking World Series.

Helluva pitching duel going on right now with the Red Sox/ Indians. Fausto vs. Lester. This is going to be a game where the first team to score wins. Thru the bottom of the 6th, each team has 0 runs and just 2 hits. With a win, the Tribe will sweep the Red Sox. Color me surprised in how good this team looks so far....

Interesting stat of the day:

The Red Sox are the first team since 1905 to begin a season 0-5 after having the best record in the league the year previous.

The only other team in 1904-1905 to accomplish this odd feat? The Boston Red Sox.

Huh?? I think you mean the Rays.

Nice going by Cleveland- solid 4 game win stretch after those 2 bad early games (esp. Carmona, who got clubbed by Chicago last week).

As for the Red Sox- I'm having flashbacks to the 2008 Detroit Tigers (made big offseason moves, but got off to a less-than-stellar start).
