Yet another different batting order for the Red Sox tonight:

Ellsbury
Crawford
Pedroia
Gonzalez
Youkilis
Ortiz
Drew
Salty
Scutaro

I love Pedroia/Gonzo/Youk 3-4-5, but I don't like back-to-back lefties TWICE (Ellsbury-Crawford and Ortiz-Drew).

The Red Sox will be fine. It's amazing to watch the media make more out of this then what it is. I guess it just keeps it interesting.

I wonder if Cubs fans are going to stay home this year. I know the weather hasn't been great but sad to see empty seats.

Speaking of opening day, does Pete Rose own a mirror??

Where the hell did he get that jacket, the 1980's??

Are those women's glasses??

I can't be sure but this looks like the kind of outfit you wear when you lose a bet.

Saltalamacchia just got his first RBI of the season. The Boston Herald sais yesterday that he would not be starting tonight. Frankly, the Red Sox have no choice but to sink or swim with him

I like Pedroia....ALOT, but your #3 hitter has to have EVERYTHING as a hitter in my eyes. Hits for power, average does NOT strike out AND will do anything to score than runner. Pedroia can do alot...but he is NOT a power hitter.

CUBS fans will always show up once the weather is nice. I lived there for 8 years(2 years, I lived 3 blocks away in Wrigleyville) and Wrigley does not start to get filled up till May. Still VERY early.

Salsa,I agree Pedroia isn't your prototype power hitter...he's more a 15-20 HR guy. BUT with two of the fastest guys in MLB hitting in front of him, and Gonzo-Youk-Papi hitting behind him, Pedey could be an RBI machine if Tito left him in the 3 hole. :)

Even worse, it looks like Salty is carrying on the Victor Martinez/Jason Varitek tradition of not being able to throw out base stealers. :o

I don't know....I just think that the #3 has to do EVERYTHING with the bat. Approx. .320+ average, 30-35+ HRs, 120+ RBIs OBP around 47%, with less than 100 Ks as year.

That is why it is so difficult to find guys like that.

Tomorrow's headline could be. "Red Sox become first team to open 0-5 while starting five pitchers who have been Cy Young award candidates within the last four seasons."

This rotation is reminding me of the late 1970s Celtics, who were the only team in the league that could start five all-stars and bring in a sixth off the bench, but those six included Curtis Rowe, who had made the all star team by default back when there was still a rule that every team had to be represented, a 38 year old John Havlicek, an over the hill Dave Bing and Sidney Wicks, believed to have the longest NBA career (10 years) in which his scoring average went down in every successive season he played. Former Red Sox infielder Dave Stapleton holds the major league baseball record for the longest career in which a player's batting average went down every year, seven seasons.

Still early, I know, but those pitiful Pirates are looking good so far. Neil Walker hit HR #2 to lead the Pirates over the Cards 3-1. Buccos are 2 for 2 in series wins, and on the road. :)
