Yeah Cincy use to always open the season 1st. I thought because ESPN didnt make MLB start a day early that maybe the Reds would be 1st.

They could have started at 1 if they wanted to, the Tigers didn't actually start till 10-15 after 1.

There is one difference between Mattingly and Torre, Torre would have pulled Kershaw for a pinch hitter

I know. Before the 9th I turned the game off and posted on FB that I do not want to watch him blow. Fortunately he didn't blow it. But a closer is supposed to be unhittable in the first game of the year. The dude is not fooling anyone. He will not be the closer by year's end

I do not want to watch him blow either.

I think the issue is he has that heater, but it tends to be stright as an arrow in a Kyle Farnsworth-kinda way. He throws so hard he can be effective (and was last night) with his off-speed stuff, but he has to be extremely careful with his fastball location, because it's hittable when it's in the zone.

The Brewers closer sucked yesterday too. Gave up 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th. I am not complaining though, since my Reds were the beneficiary of his blown save.
