As much as I would have loved to see Wakefield pitch the required five innings and be eligible for a potential W (I REALLY want Wake to get the record, for he has been a class act for 16 years here), Tito left him in for one or two batters too long. :(

Marlins continue their hot ways with a quick stop and a "W" in Citi Field. Marlins have won 9 out of 10 and 13 out of 17. And Hanley has been hot as well, since "Trader Jack" has taken over the Marlins, Hanley has raises his average 65 points! 24 games ago, he was hitting .190.

What a difference 3 weeks make. Marlins now only 1 game from coming out of the cellar and tie for 3rd place. WITH their best hitter hitting under .260 and their best pitcher still out.

This game is just crazy...

Funny you mentioned that.... I got find it in either SI or Baseball America where there is sudden shortage of quality starters in the minor leagues. It was a great read and I need to find it again so I can post.
It's so true. That's why this Buchholz back injury concerns me! Right now, who would follow Beckett and Lester (who is on the DL himself, but is coming back next week) in a playoff series? Lackey? Miller? Wakefield? Meh.......

Yeah...the storied stated that almost every single Major League scouting system is re-evaluaing their entire scouting system as to what has happened to the lack of starting pitching. Prime example is this years baseball draft, 20 of the 33 picks were pitchers....and in the last 3 drafts, more than half of the picks have been pitchers in the 1st round.

It is crazy. Look at the Yankee batting averages...

Cano .294 (bad half of a season for him)
Gardner .286
Granderson .274
Jeter .267
Nunez .262
Swisher .256
Texeira .239
Posada .224
Martin .223
A-Rod on the DL

And they're 56-37 in a VERY difficult division!

They have two tough teams.... Boston and Tampa. The Marlins have Atlanta and the Phillies. The Yankees team is loaded with season vets that have proven year in and year out they can play. I would hope a team THAT loaded better be playing over .500 baseball. We have Hanley and Johnson...at is it. The rest are some REAL green guys. If you look at the standings, they are identical except in the NL East, everyone is almost playing .500 ball.

Look at that line-up one more time. Those are guys in the pinstripes KNOW how to win, the Marlins are are team that still needs to learn that.

Bonifacio .290
Infante .257
Morrison .261
Ramirez .255
Sanchez .281 - - -> our lone All Star, by default almost.
Stanton .258
Cameron .167
Buck .224

Also missing is ROY of 2009 Coughlin.

Blame it on Cleveland. We've compiled a heaping pile of young guns the last few years. A TON of budding prospects in our minor league system. Part of the reason why we're making a nice smooth transition after giving away 2 Cy Youngers.

Adequate starting pitching and a dominant bullpen will make up for mediocre offense.
