Remember the graveyard scene from Young Frankstein, where Eye-Gore says: "Could be worse. Could be raining." and it starts raining? Well, it is now POURING!

...Martinez threw out just 11% of the runners for the Red Sox last year, and only 24% over his career. For that matter, Varitek threw ouf 13% last year versus 24% for his career. Those numbers are unacceptable for an Epstein team...

I see things are going from bad to worse. Martinez has only thrown out one baserunner this year in 12 attempts against him, meaning he is down to 8% caught ....

And last night, from ESPN.com:

Texas Rangers vs. Boston Red Sox - Recap - April 20, 2010 - ESPN

...The Red Sox snapped a five-game losing streak despite allowing the Rangers to steal a club-record nine bases....

The Rangers swiped all nine against knuckleballer Tim Wakefield and catcher Victor Martinez.

"I was just concentrating on throwing strikes and wasn't keeping an eye on the running game, which showed, they stole nine bases off me," Wakefield said. "I know it'll get better."

Texas stole one in the first, five in the third and two in the fourth. Cruz set the club record with his third of the game, swiping third in the fifth...

"If we got one base, of course, we were going to run -- a knuckleball, tough to handle," Washington said.

The Rangers were 18-for-18 in stolen-base attempts against the Red Sox last season.

The previous club record was eight, set against Boston in Arlington last Aug. 15...

Texas set a club record for steals in an inning with five in the third. (Elvis) Andrus walked leading off and then stole second and third. Vladimir Guerrero had a pair of stolen bases and Cruz the other in the inning...

Before the inning, Martinez threw the ball into center field while warming up Wakefield. He also threw it past the pitcher in the fifth inning.

Boston's catchers have thrown out just one of 31 runners this season.

The nine steals allowed matched the most by Boston since Oct. 3, 1913.

The Brewers beat the Pirates 20-0 yesterday to finish off a sweep. Ugh. How do the Reds get swept?

Was anyone familiar with the 'unwritten rule' of not running across the pitcher's mound during a game? I know there are a lot of unwritten rules in baseball, but I've never heard that one. Of course it had to be A-Rod (it's ALWAYS something with A-Rod), but is this really one of them?

I knew that pitchers didn't step on the chalk baseline going to and coming from the dugout, but that is superstition rather than etiquette.

There's a lot of stuff like 'don't bunt for a hit late in a no hitter', 'don't look back and see where the catcher is', etc., but this is the first I'm hearing of 'don't run across the pitcher's mound'.
