MLB 2009 Season

I find it very hard to believe that most teams can't use a Paul Byrd!

Report: Paul Byrd Wants to Pitch
By: Alex Speier
According to a report by Tim Brown of Yahoo! Sports, right-hander Paul Byrd hopes to return to playing baseball. The pitcher, whom the Red Sox acquired in a trade from the Indians last August, suggested that he would be ready to pitch in a game with a couple weeks of preparation through a minor-league assignment. While the Red Sox would not be expected to get involved in bidding for the pitcher (who went 4-2 with a 4.78 ERA in Boston), his return could nonetheless be significant for the team. The Byrd-man has always had pin-point accuracy. I am stunned too that he still doesn't have a job.

Selig: Yankees, Mets to discuss prices

Associated Press

NEW YORK -- Baseball commissioner Bud Selig says the [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=nyy"]Moved Permanently[/ame] and [ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=nym"]Moved Permanently[/ame] will be discussing whether to adjust their ticket prices after seeing premium seats remain empty at their new ballparks.

Speaking Thursday to the Associated Press Sports Editors, Selig said it was an issue for the teams to decide, not Major League Baseball, and that he wouldn't make any recommendation.
The Yankees are charging $500-$2,625 for Legends Suite tickets in 25 sections at the new Yankee Stadium in the first nine rows around the infield, an area that contains 1,895 seats.
The Mets are charging an average of $175-$495 for 1,567 seats in the Delta Club, which includes 20 rows between the dugouts.

The discussion of adjusting prices doesnt surprise me. I mean there is nobody there plus the fact that if the Mets continue to stink up the joint, who's going to go? I mean from what I've seen, Citi Field looks great but it costs a couple of c-notes. Yankee Stadium, if people go to the Stadium and fill it up, would all the people be quiet about how great it is.

We get it. Its great, its a cathedral, etc. Enough already!!!!

You can thank ESPN for that!! It's like 'get a room already!'

Both the Yankees and Mets respond to this statement... kind of....
Yankees spokeswoman Alice McGillion wouldn't discuss Selig's remarks, saying: "We're still not talking about ticket prices."
Mets spokesman David Newman said his team wouldn't revisit what it is charging.

The ticket prices will not be dropped; what do you do for the people that have already paid those exorbitant prices, give them a refund?? They can work out some other deals with enticements like refreshments, merchandise, etc.

What about the nads it takes to already announce you're raising ticket prices for 2010??

So yeah, they have some pricing structures to sort out, the details of which are too complicated for me to offer any realistic solutions, although I’m fairly certain raising the cost of premium tickets (the ones around the plate) is not the way to go.

Yes, I said they are raising ticket prices ... next season. By four percent, in fact, which is about a $100 hike on the sections that are already empty.

Yankees Plan to Raise Ticket Prices Next Year | NBC New York

What the hell were they thinking in the first place? $500-$2600?!?!?!?! I know NYC is expensive and a good amount of wealthy people live there, but thats crazy for a baseball game. Whoever thought that price-point was a good idea should be looking for a new job.

For $2600, a yankee fan could fly to Cleveland, take in an entire series in good seats, stay in a nice hotel, and still have money leftover.

It will eventually bite them when people finally get fed up. I will never go to a game in Yankee stadium if it costs that much.
