MLB 2009 Season

BOTH Citi Field's and Yankee Stadium's home "openers" tonight are available for viewing FREE on MLB TV!!!!!:)

hopefully they get these games in (I'm looking forward to Red Sox-Mets).

It's supposed to rain all day here in Boston, and more times than not, we get our weather from the NYC area.

This is a nostalgic question for those old enough to remember:

I have some MLB All-Star Game programs, and I was reading about the days of the Gillette All-Star balloting.

Introduced in 1970 (though no sponsored by Gillette), this has allowed fans around the country to vote for their favorite players.

Bill, Wozniak, and any other guys old enough- any of you remember the days of using the Gillette ballots to choose your favorites (and getting free Gillette stuff)?

The Pirates have played Manatee CC (which is near the team’s training facility in Bradenton) every year for the past 10 seasons, and won each time, until now. This season was the first year the game was played towards the end of spring training, as opposed to the beginning.

Today's final from Bradenton, Florida: Pittsburgh Pirates 4, Manatee Community College Lancers... 6. It's gonna be a good year, Bucco fans! :D

GOODNESS GRACIOUS THAT’S EMBARRASSING!!

Pirates Lose to Manatee CommunityCollege - Bucs Dugout

I'm shocked no one has said anything about this!

A Community College team just beat a Professional team?! Holy sh*t, the Bucko's must suck!

its just Spring training, doesn't mean anything. I bet the Pirates had their 3rd string in.

The Lions beat the Giants last year in the pre-season...

I don't care if it's "just spring training" or it was their subs. They're a professional team and they lost to a community college! How does this happen? No wonder the Pirates don't have much of a fan base anymore.

They dont have a fanbase any more cuz everyone in PA jumped on the Phillies bandwagon last year...

This would be the NFL equivalent of if the Lions lost to a high-school team.

I always hear scenario's thrown out every once in a while like "oh man, what if the Florida Gators played the Detroit Lions? They'd really give them a game." But the conversations usually comes to a hault right there after you realize the NFL team is full of professionals and wouldn't have a problem with the college kids no matter how dominant they looked in college.

Well, here's a case of that wonder scenario coming to fruition. But the thing is, it wasn't even a "good" college team! This wasn't Arizona St, Texas, USC or another dominant college program............. it was a freaking community college that schooled a major league team!!!!

How is this not on the front of ESPN.com or the top story on every sports outlet?!

if it was the regular season itd be different. theyre just playing for fun basically. it means nothing, they're not fighting for a spot in the playoffs. just getting ready for the regular season.

Did they pitch underhand and hit off a tee? Didn't think so.

This was still a 9 inning game with normal "real game" rules, right?

Still no excuse for this IMO. The Pirates should be laughed and mocked at for all eternity.

well under that theory so should the then Super Bowl Champion Giants for losing to the Lions in the pre-season (who went 0-16 last year). So should the other 3 teams the Lions beat in the pre-season. (yes they went undefeated in the pre-season). But did NFL Network or ESPN even mention this fact? NO! Nobody cares about pre-season. Its pointless and meaningless.

Not the same scenario at all!

You're talking two professional teams. Big whoop.

A professional Pirates team lost to a Community College. Two very different levels of talent there.

well for all we know the Pirates could make the playoffs. No one thought Phillies had a chance last pre-season now did they?

If the pre-season were any indication of how well you're going to do in the regular season then the Lions would be the Super Bowl Champions right now.

The Pirates could have had their starters in there and they probably would have still lost.

:mad::D

The Pirates do suck. But It was all minor league players, their low single A team.

BTW....the 25 man roster beat the Reds on the same day. How pitiful that the Reds actually lost to the Pirates.
