Just called Dish for upgrade...

Just got off the phone with Dish and someone who hardly spoke english...but I got the jist of what he said. I still have a 510 and an 811. I have been putting off upgrading but really wanted the 622vip. After hearing I was loosing alot of programming 8-15 if I didn't upgrade (talk about being pushed to upgrade by dish), I took the plunge and called them today.

I told the guy I wanted to get rid of the 510 and 811 and wanted a 622vip and asked what he could do for me. Suprise suprise he said $149 upfront, $50 rebate (you know the rest). I was hoping for some better deal since I am getting rid of both of my current receivers, but oh well. So I took the plunge and gave him CC info and have a install date this monday (7-16) in the afternoon. I am happy about how quick!

The guy said that I will need a dish upgrade too which is included. I currently have a 61.5 dish and a superdish. What dish will I be getting to replace these? I live north of Milwaukee WI if that helps. And why do I need a new dish? Overall, my bill is going up $6. I am keeping the same programming as before, getting rid of a second receiver and only going to have the 622, so why would my bill be more then before?

Did I make a good choice? Will I be getting more HD now? Oh and does the 622 have NBR? cuz I never did get that on my 510 that they promised forever!

I am sorry for how long this is and all the questions, but thank you all very much in advance!

you wont need a new dish since you have 61.5... all the HD is there or 129. The sales people probably just think you need a dish 1000 automatically if you are getting HD.. unless your locals are available in HD and they are on 129 or 118.5. 622 does have NBR. Bill probably shouldnt be more unless you upgraded to Dish HD

the 622 does have NBR, and yes...you will get quite a few more HD channels than the 811 was giving you, plus you'll get all the new channels on 8/15! (you wouldnt have with the 811)

Your bill had to go up because you went from the old HD pack+Voom ($10 above package price), to the new HD package which is $20. How that all shakes out to a $6 increase, I'm not sure.

I thought that too with the dishes...I told they guy I had 61.5 and a superdish and he said I would still need a new dish. Whatever, no arguing with those guys I guess, I guess I just wait and see what installer does. No locals yet in HD  and he of course doesn't have a date as too when. Good to hear that NBR on it! I did have VOOM and HD package prior. New Dish HD is $20, $5 more then what I was paying. Getting rid of 2nd receiver minus $5 so now even, but he said there is a $6 lease fee now, so over all my bill goes up $6??? Why is there now a lease fee? I thought that the first receiver even if it is a dual is included in the programming cost, or am I wrong?

Thanx for the replys thus far!

Bill should be:

AT 200: 42.99
Locals 5.00
DishHD 20.00
DVR: 5.98

Total: 73.97

I could be wrong but I think that with the Dish DVR Advantage plan you would get the same thing for 69.99

Yeah no 6 bucks for the first unless they changed something.

If you hook up that pesky info gathering phone line.. LOL
otherwise add another $5

For your location you will need the 129 bird for your HD-RSN such as FSNN if you want it. FSNN-HD just went live yesterday.

So in other words I can keep the superdish and get the installer to swing the 61.5 to 129? Will I get everything that way?

Yes. All national HD content is mirrored on both 61.5 and 129. 129 will have any local or regional HD content that's available for your location.

I had a 129 wing Dish put in. It sucked. Lucky to get an 80 signal.

Now that the Penguins season is over, I swung it over to 61.5. I'm sitting at 107 for my signal.

I'll put up with it for the hockey season. but dish needs to get that bird fixed asap.

New Dish subscriber not happy.
