Join the SatelliteGuys Folding@Home Team!

Newbie second time poster.

Well in honor of Charlie giving us three new HD nationals I'm making a bold attempt to help. Who knows maybe something they accomplish may even cure me someday. :D:D:D

Hope I can help the SatelliteGuys also as I have received a lot of great information here over the years. Maybe "Soon" actually before that JK.. Hope to join.

Woo-hoo, back from vacation, so I'm folding again. Finally hit the million mark! :)
Congratulations! I saw that this afternoon and was waiting to get home before posting about our Team's latest Millionaire. :up Way to Fold!!!

Plazzman, :welcome to the Team and to SatelliteGuys.US!

Congrats JG

Welcome Plazzman

I got all my dual-cores going again after the week long snafu of not realizing they weren't doing anything.

I'm getting the following error message after a unit completed on my home computer (an iMac G5 running OS 10.4.11):

[11:04:57] + Attempting to get work packet
[11:04:57] - Connecting to assignment server
[11:04:57] - Successful: assigned to (0.0.0.0).
[11:04:57] + News From Folding@Home: Welcome to Folding@Home
[11:04:57] Work Unit has an invalid address.
[11:04:57] - Error: Attempt #26 to get work failed, and no other work to do.
Waiting before retry.

Anyone know what I need to do with this?

The "assigned to (0.0.0.0)" message indicates that there are no available Work Units (WUs) for your FAH Client. Since you're running a G5, you have either the V5.02 PPC client or the V6.01beta2 PPC client. If you look into the FAHLog.txt file, you should be able to see what servers have assigned WUs to your iMac in the past and then go to the Folding@Home server status to see if the server(s) are up and assigning WUs.

Thanks. I checked the server status and my server is not currently assigning WUs. In fact, it looks like a lot of the servers are only accepting Work Units at the moment.

After a several day wait, I just got a new work unit on the home CPU.

"Ford's in his flivver. All's right with the world."

Somewhat the same issues on my end.

I have experienced the 0.0.0.0 my self the last 3-4 day's.
Mine seem to come back after about 10 minutes or so, using mainly windows xp machines with a few Vista workstations.

Congrats jgantert on the mile stone..

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome.!!!

Boy, if it isn't one thing, it's another... I came home last night with another PC/motherboard/bad caps project and after I got the new capacitors installed, I go to test it out and can't get the Internet. Well, come to find out that NOBODY in the house can get to the Internet because the DSL is out. Both of my Folding machines are twiddling their electronic thumbs with nothing to do. I actually shut down my Power Mac for the first time in over a year (minus maintenance outages to add memory or blow out dust).

Obviously, my DSL is back now; both Macs uploaded their WUs from yesterday and are back to Folding again. :up

Speaking of Apple, I see we're 1-2 weeks from passing the Apple Computer Folding team! ;)

There is a big difference between how they calculate points on the single vs SMP versions. One would think the single version would generate 1/4 the points of the SMP. But, the SMP probably results in 8xthe single core version. The quad cores would do a 1600-1800 point work unit in 17 hours. Running them in single mode produces a 250 point unit every 24 or so hours.

well the difference is because the smp ones are beta, so you take a risk of them blowing out right at the end and not getting any points. Its's not just a factor of 1 to 4.

That said i have had a couple of "whoppers" recently 2144 points on the smp. which is almost 10x the single cpu client
