Is Dish making a mistake by naming its programming packages after precious metals?

Didn't/doesn't DirecTV use metals? Dish should use something "original" like gemstones (opal/ruby/sapphire/diamond?) or maybe HDTV technologies (CRT/LCD/DLP/Plasma?)

Yes, DirecTv used metal naming for their packages a while back.

There is the Olympic games of course, and silver, gold and diamond jubilees, and various other ways to tells us that gold is more valuable than "so-so silver and shameful bronze."

The olympics didn't award medals until 1908 officially, 1896 unofficially, but I was just joking with you on the comment. Those are awards though, not classes/categories of service.
