I need info on new hopper plus

Forcing Hopper Plus onto some people who don't want it depletes the available supply, taking it away from other customers who do want it. (Or giving Dish an excuse to charge those customers more for the Hopper Plus upgrade, since they are in short supply.) Question: Will those who are forced to accept the Hopper Plus (but don't want it) in order to get the new Joey 4's, then be allowed to sell the Hopper Plus to someone else who does want one? Or would those Hopper+'s need to either be returned to Dish or remain out of service (thus going to waste)?
At the end of the day, it shouldn't matter. If you paid the lease fee for it (if they charged one), its still Dish's equipment. I don't think you can sell it to someone else. Most likely folks will just disconnect the Plus and use the Joey 4's until the Plus is fine tuned and works properly with the features everyone wants. Just my opinion. The Joey 4 wireless works without the Plus as mentioned by a few on here. Now can Dish find out that your Plus is disconnected and force you to reinstall or return the Plus back to them?

I called Dish Loyalty today and it seems my area (Chicagoland) does not have them available yet.
Who knows I haven't heard anything today. perhaps there is a chance due to the feedback they have gotten here they have decided to pull back for a bit until some things are fixed or improved.

Some folks have asked me why I haven't done a review of these things yet and the honest reason is over the past few weeks these things have been changing fast with fixes and improvements. Just a week or two ago it would take about 30 - 45 seconds from the time you turned them on until you saw live TV. This has GREATLY improved. Kudos to the team!

But I am getting updates all the time with new software... and the software I am getting is BETA software. I have no real idea what the live public software is.

This thing honstly is a moving target, but with that said is getting better with each software update.

Just got off the phone with DISH Loyalty department. Have install appointment 20 Sept. One H+, two J4s, and two WJ4s. His system wouldn't do two H+s. I asked him three times if both my H3s will still be operational and he said yes. Time will tell when the technician gets here. He quoted me $50 each for all five new pieces total $250. I asked him if he could do any better than that since I have been with DISH for 15 years. He took off 50% so total was $125.

I did an install today with a Hopper three and a Joey 4 and Hopper+.

One of my qualities is figuring out how to do things in order to make them work. When it comes to workarounds or finding a process that’s efficient, I will put my skills up against anybody lol. Anyway I’m going to post what I did, to make it all work the first time, with no issues so that if anybody wants to do this on their own or if they have a technician come out who seems like he might be a little confused by the process, refer to this.

First thing, put everything in place and plugged in the Hopper, and only the Hopper. I update mine at home the night before so I don’t have to sit there for an hour waiting for the software to update off of the USB thumb drives that we carry, so your technician will have two probably install the software at your house. If you do it on your own, it’ll have to download off the satellite. Which you will do after you pair the remote and it runs the check switch

Once I activated the Hopper and the rest of the equipment, I am mediately connected the hopper to the Internet while it was activating.

After the Hopper activated and went to live TV and I went through all the settings, I plugged in the plus. I waited until it started to download before I plugged in the Joey. The wired Joeys are far superior to the wireless. This one linked right away and began to download. The one I did with wireless last week was a nightmare.

After the Joey finished downloading and rebooted and came up to the sign in screen, we logged into the Customer‘s Google account, went through the disclaimers and when it came up to the android TV menu, hey went through all the settings for the remote in picture size and everything and then I turned that box off and went back to the Hopper. The reason I did the Joey first is to give the hopper time to download the program guide and kind of let things settle in.

Repeated the process of signing into the Google account and going through all the settings.

I admit that it’s pretty cool having android TV has an operating system because it’s what I’m used to on my own TV so it’s very familiar for me. Two things I don’t like is that it gave me options to select a base package of applications but it wouldn’t let me delete any that the customer didn’t want. Also, the Voice remotes are basically useless, when trying to use them the way they have traditionally worked. I wish that Dish would’ve put out some kind of training on how do you get the voice remotes to actually find anything.

This customer had two TVs. A TCL Roku 4K in the living room and a Polaroid, small TV in the kitchen which may or may not have been 1080.

The picture on the Polaroid was actually pretty spectacular and the picture on the Roku was wretched. There are the kind of presets that have been discussed on here with higher end TV’s and playing with the settings did very little to correct the issues. Peoples faces were washed out so bad you could not see the creases or the wrinkles in their face. They looked like Play-Doh.

I was supposed to do three of these today but one canceled and another rescheduled so it looks like that Dish is pushing these out en force because I hadn’t done any since that one last week.

FWIW, I used the USB 3.0 port on the Hopper. I haven’t seen anything that specifies whether you should use one or the other

Thanks HipKat. Really appreciate all your help you give us in SatGuys.

Me too also. Scheduled an AM appt in case it takes all day and the wife will be at work. I will be upset if I have to take my 2nd H3 out of my setup.
Don't be upset, you have been warned by Scott, Brittany from Dish Technical, and myself. It's coming out or you are not getting installed.

I think you're going to be upset. Here are several post quotes on this exact topic from Brittany with Dish Technical Operations..
Dual Hopper setups are not compatible with the Hopper Plus and would need to be modified to a 1 Hopper installation. Whether that is using only 1 existing Hopper or upgrading to a Hopper 3.

We are not allowing a Hopper Plus on a dual Hopper install.

That is our business rule and the system will not let you. If you want a Hopper Plus, you will need to remove a Hopper.

Good luck!

Yep not sure how there is still confusion on this topic.
Perhaps not everyone has read the other thread that I linked way back in post number 42. Here it is again, for anyone who needs a refresher:
