Hopper 1 and 2 comparison info?

I'm wondering what feature and performance differences would we expect to see between the Hopper 1 & 2 other than the lack of Sling in the 1 of course...

We currently have a Hopper 2 and a VIP211k that we use in our RV where we live most of the year. We also have a vacation cottage in Upstate NY, and when we're staying there for awhile, I usually move the Hopper 2 in and connect it to the permanently mounted 1K4 dish there. A few times we've left the Hopper there, and only used the VIP211k in the RV for shorter trips. We've found it very convenient to be able to remotely record programs using Dish Anywhere that we would otherwise miss while underway, and either watch them when go back, or with Dish Anywhere when we have sufficient Internet service available. However, we do miss having the Hopper features along with us as well. A friend has offered me a new Hopper 1 (2000) that he got in a boat dealer buyout if I want it. Would we be better off just springing for another Hopper 2? Oh, and the Hopper 1 is free if we pick it up, shipping cost otherwise. I have no interest in upgrading to a Hopper 3 until most of the bugs and available features get sorted out.

The Hopper 1 is slower (slower CPU, less RAM). Whether you notice or feel a difference will depend on each person. It doesn't have Netflix either. Not sure what other differences there are, if any....

You mean to keep the H1 at the cottage full time? If so, then that's two active addresses and technically two contracts required.

H1 is noticeably, but not painfully slower. No Sling without adapter. No Netflix.

As an owned receiver activating/deactivating is cheap, you should be able to test it out without purchasing a node (but only with 2 tuners active). If it's free give it a try.

Call Dish or message DIRT with the receiver and card numbers to make sure they are clean and can be activated before driving out of your way or paying for shipping.

Thanks, guys, that doesn't sound too bad at all. I've already verified the numbers with Dish. My idea would be to leave the Hopper 2 at the cottage where there's full time Internet available for Sling. The 1K4 dish there has a Solo Node on it for the Hopper 2, and when we're there, I usually connect the VIP211k to the third port. Our portable 1K4 in the RV has the same setup. If we get the second Hopper, I'll install it in the RV, and change the cottage dish to a Duo Node so the two Hoppers can see each other when we're there. The VIP211k would likely be deactivated and either sold or kept as a spare. All of our Dish equipment is purchased and on the Flex plan, so there's no contracts involved. The cottage receiver loses the locals when we change the RV service address of course, but that's not an issue since it also gets good OTA signals. On the road, we don't use Netflix because of our limited Internet data limits.
