Got my genie hooked up via ethernet , it works, but I always get dropped connections error when testing.I also have amber lights at the dvr itself.I usually have the router in the utility closet.I ran cat 5 to the dvr location, with jacks at both ends.
I moved the router next to the genie to see if the leds would change, but no such luck.
Any suggestions?.I have Fios 15/5 ,speed tests are just where they should be.I'm getting slow dl and lots of buffering sometimes.

The LEDs are most likely the ethernet activity indicators.
I'd log into your router to see what the internal logs indicate.
You usually can log into the router itself by entering its IP address in a browser.

Not 100% sure, but I know the the Genie (HR34) has the CCK built in, and the CCK uses an amber light to indicate poor network signal strength, usually on the Coax network. This, coupled with the dropped connections, would indicate that you've either got some loose connections or bad connectors somewhere along your coax cables. You could swap out the Ethernet cable from the router to the the Genie, but from what your describing, I'd lay money on the coax.
Hope that helps.

Helps a lot ,thanks. I looked over the coax yesterday. The installer had a trainee with him I don't know what ends he did, but I did find a few where the ends weren't fully inserted into connector, and had long stingers.I was able to push them in, and cut the stingers.I just have the one on the roof that I'd like to check when the weather gets a little better.I guess I'll bring my tools home after work and redo the few ends they did just to be sure.
I ran new coax to 2 of the 4 rooms before the install, the other 2 are rg6 short runs 1 about 15ft the other 30ft.All ends are compression fittings.I guess I'll repunch the ethernet blocks also just to be safe.
For now I put the deca back in last night and it seems to be working fine, but still get that dropped connection error when doing a system test.I did dl a 58min concert in 40 min so at least that's good.

Wait.. DECA? thought you had the Genie hooked up via Ethernet? If that's correct... There shouldn't be any DECA's in the system unless your talking about another receiver (model Hx23 or lower)

EDIT: uhm.. I'm not shouting.. I just capitalize the DECA by habit... when I reread the post it looked really rude....

I took ethernet out of genie, and hooked up the deca like the installer had left it.
