The good thing is that Dish developed their own plugin to play your content on Dish Anywhere.

The bad thing is some dumb ass developer never bothered to beta test it or send it to anyone else.
Dish Anywhere now comes up that a plugin is required to show content. There is a nice button to go and download the plugin.

The plugin install package downloads fine but when you try to run it it gives you this message:

“DISH Anywhere Video Player Installer.pkg” can’t be opened because it is from an unidentified developer.
DISH Anywhere Video Player Installer.pkg” is on the disk image “DISH_Anywhere_Video_Player_Installer_2.7.1.dmg”.
Firefox downloaded this disk image today at 9:33 AM.

So they hired someone to write a viewer plugin that doesn't know what the heck code signing is on a MAC or IOS. Without code signing or a certificate OSX will not allow an install of anything that Apple doesn't have identified as a registered developer. That one of the reason OSX is virus resistant.

Can anyone else on a Mac (Mavericks) go to Dish Anywhere and see if they can duplicate the problem.
Also in the bowels of Dish, how to I make an urgent Dumb Ass report? All they have to do it code sign it properly and just replace the package and we can then download it and install it.

First of all, calm down. Second, contact DIRT and see if they can address the issue. You can PM them instead of starting a thread if it's very urgent.

I just checked on my MacBook Pro running Mavericks and Dish Anywhere is working just fine. No update requested.

As to the package, try a <right-click> to open a dialog and then select 'open', that might get you around the issues as it does on apps gotten outside of the Apple App store.

Parsons,

Interesting! Thanks, it did come up with the same error but then the install process did start up!
That's a new trick I did not know. Appreciate the advise.

When you encounter any downloaded application that gives you the message of "... an unidentified developer", etc., just right-click the app and select "Open". That would still give you the error dialog window you described, but with an additional option to "Open" the app anyway. That would only happen the first time you open said app. You are literally giving your permission for the app to open every time from then on.

Of course, you should be VERY, very sure of what it is that you are allowing to open. Be very aware that it is not of undetermined origin, malware, trojans, etc.

This is from not really knowing the ins and outs of Apple, not because of DISH. I have often had to right click on my wife's Ipad....

Working fine on my Macbook Pro.

This is more a bug (although Apple calls it a Security Feature) in Mavericks. Previous versions of the OS did not have this issue. The new Gatekeeper in Mavericks is whats causing the issue.

Here is the fix from Apple. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14369?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US

In this case it is not a problem on DISH's end.

Yes, it is very common to see if you get apps from other than the Apple App Store.

Apple did that to try to make it just difficult enough so that developers would put their stuff on the store and Apple could get their cut.

I think it was introduced in Mountain Lion. And yes, it very definitely is a security feature. The idea is to make you think about what you just downloaded a little bit more.

Working here in Mavericks with Safari, I had to download the new plugin and then had to click trust on the warning message. Still has the bug where when I try to watch a local sat channel, I instead get either 9582 or a random OTA sub channel.

I still think the OP should file a Dumb Ass report.....but not to Dish.

You got that right. And an apology to the Dish software folks might be nice too. They aren't perfect but they seem more interested and they work harder than any other software team that I've seen in a long, long time.

Folks crap happens, I know if this popped up for me and I didn't know better I would prbably blame DISH too.

here is a idea for you to suggest to dish
