Dish Pricing Update

That's acceptable. With this new equipment fees (if true), Dish Network is comparing with the cable companies. I believe Comcast is charging $15.95 for a HD DVR in our area.

I agree. Comcast was an option when I moved back to Mobile, because they were always good here. I called them a few days ago about the cost of two rcvrs, and they told me it'd be $32/mo. They can shove it.

This is like ebay sellers offering a product for lower than average prices, then quadrupling the shipping.

If I have to pay a $199 fee, or recommit to a contract, I should not get raped on the monthly equipment fees. I can absolve cable a little bit, because they just give you the stuff, and if it breaks, you drive to an office and they swap it right there.

Well, if thats true, and Dish does this, then Directv looks like a better choice.

I'm ok with a $5-6 lease fee on rcvr's, and with a SINGLE DVR, but I refuse to pay more than that if I have an option.

That assumes that DirecTV doesn't follow Dish's lead on this with their 2010 price increases.

Thats my situation. Until now, I used the 722k with OTA and could record 4 things. Now that I wont have OTA, I need a 2nd rcvr for the 32" LCD in the bedroom. I'm watching all of this closely, and may just take the big savings as a new D* customer.

I'll never go back to Insight cable, but I would seriously think about OTA and Netflix. I was planning on subscribing to NetFlix in January anyway.

If you decide to get Netflix, only get the $8.99 subscription which is perfect for streaming on multiple devices. Originally, I bought the Roku Netflix Player because it was first on the block, but then I bought the Best Buy Insignia NS-WBRDVD Blu-ray. The Insignia features wireless and an interface to browse and select videos from the Netflix site, unlike the Roku where you have to use a computer first to pick your videos. I got the NS-WBRDVD for $130 right before Thanksgiving. I will buy another one of these puppies.

I went OTA only with a TivoHD and Netflix/Amazon VOD for 3 months. I loved it, but the wife put her foot down :(

Out of curiousity, what was she missing? You explore using Torrent Episode Downloader / TED and Usenet newsgroups?

Well lets see if I can decipher some of this crap out. We already have the fee for 12.00 on hd dvrs if they are additional after the first . They combined the dvr fee and the lease fee into one fee last year and You saved .98 cents . Now the only thing I see happening is that they are combining the A/0 fee on EVERY extra receiver and they are making the lease/additional fees the same for both sd and hd receivers. Now the A/0 fee I have never heard of. I know in the past there was the programming access fee of 6.00 if you had No basic programming pack, but I have never heard of the A/0 fee. There is also the 5.00 no phone line connection fee on the extra receivers past the first one if you don't connect them to a phone line or ethernet. IS this the same damn fee? So I see this is a way to jack an extra $5.00 out of every hd dvr customer if they have additional dvr receivers on their account. I also see this is a way to standardize all the extra receivers under one price. So all single receivers are now 7.00 and all duo dvrs are 17.00. They are giving the appearance of one dvr fee per account that if you still have the WITH DVR pack is included into the price anyway.

I think this price increase is unacceptable for most subs . In bad times you don't go up on the price of equipment simply because you can. I can already hear DISH saying NO price increase on their programming this year. Which is a big fat LIE! This will make people cut back on programming and to ditch extra receivers in order to keep their bills low. So Directv is looking like they will be the cheaper of the two companies once this goes through. So once again DISH proved why they are still the leader of NICKEL & DIME fees except they will now combine all their nickel and dime fees into one big GIANORMOUS FEE.
