Yes thats the way it is now, but that all changes on February 1st. Dish DVR Advantage is no more.
Believe it or not they seem to be trying to simplifying things at the same time.
I have AEP and a owned 722 and a leased 622. Why do I have a $7.00 HDDuoDVR charge on my account?
Here is what I see
Now:
1st rcvr - $6 lease + $6 dvr fee
2nd - $6 lease + $6 dvr + $5 AO
New
1st rcvr - $6 lease + $6 dvr
2nd - $17
So its the same damn price?
If I held back on reporting the info I was getting for multiple sources and didnt report on it until Dish made it official, then I might as well change the sites name to DBSTalk.
This is SatelliteGuys and when we have a good lead on a story we report it. If you don't want to know anything until there is a press release then go to DBSTalk.
Thinking about it last night, while $17 a month is a lot for a Duo DVR, when you figure that the price includes the AO, DVR and other fees it makes it better. I know some folks though that the $17 charge would also include the other fees on top, not they case they are just rolling all the charges together.
I did a check of my local cable company and the costs for a HD DVR are about the same PLUS they charge extra to rent the remote to operate the HD DVR. It looks like this receiver pricing is going to become the norm in the industry and would not be surprised to see DirecTV follow behind, but if they dont they they just might be able to call themselves the new low price leader.
One more thing I am proud to report the good and bad on all of the satellite industry, I do this so that our members are informed so they can make the best decissions for their needs. And informed consumer is a better consumer. Take a look at the homepage at the other site, they only report the good stuff, we tell you the good and bad so you can decide whats best for you. And that something I am damn proud of.
Right now, I'm paying $12.00 for each 622 (no A/O fee). I'm not paying anything for the first one (722). So if the $17.00 per receiver is true, the increase is $5.00 per receiver.
In my case, my bill would go up $10.00 for 2 622s. I'm assuming the first receiver fee will continue to be waived. If not, my bill goes up $27.00 and that's a 21% increase on my bill.
Directv is a lease fee per unit of $5 or whatever, and a SINGLE dvr fee right??
Correct, $5/per receiver (after the 1st) plus the single DVR fee, $6.00, that covers all DVR's on the account.
Correct, $5/per receiver (after the 1st) plus the single DVR fee, $6.00, that covers all DVR's on the account.
While I can't say for sure, it looks pretty likely that this will be a good chance for me to shop my $2000/yr account (monthly charges and pay per view events) around and see if someone else wants to make me a good deal. Dish doesn't seem all that interested anymore.
My bill is kind of messed up so it's hard to tell what will happen for me. I have a 622, 510, and 501.
The 510 and 622 are leased. I own the 501.
I currently have a DVR fee of ZERO and two Solo DVR fees of $5.00ea.
I guess I assume the Solo DVR fees are actually the extra receiver fees.
If they eliminate DVR Fees (thus nothing to get for free)
And add Receiver fees (never were free with AEP)
I'll see my two $5.00 fees go to $7.00ea (not sure due to the 501 being non DVR fee to start with) and gain a nice new $17.00 fee for the 622.
So a monthly increase of $18-$21 with no increase in benefit to me. Perfect Dish. After the BS of continuing to charge me for Platinum HD when it had been discontinued, you find even another way to make me consider other service providers.
The no DVR fee was the only compelling reason for me to have the AEP pack. If this pricing strategy goes into affect, I'll drop it and get the lowest package that has the channels my wife wants to watch. If once I figure out what the true cost is and I find it is costlier than cable, I'll dump dish and go to cable. Every year for the past few years I've seen my bill get higher and higher with the value getting lower and lower. With this pricing strategy they will only remain competitive with subs that may only have one receiver. Those like me who were looking to get an additional 722K (get rid of the 510) are not the ones that will see any value with Dish any longer.
