As a dish network contractor we need to find a program to track our receiver inventory. We need the software to scan boxes to individual techs and also include what we have in our warehouse. Any advice is appreciated.

You should contact your dishnetwork rep about this instead of posting her or go to dishretailer.com ( I think thats the correct site ). Dish does use oracle of memory serves me correctly but really all you would need is any standard inventory program that uses a scan gun and barcoding to record and keep track of the inventory. You can asign a barcode to each van or go the big brother route and asign it to each tech but make sure that they write down receiver number and smart card number and put it on the paper work if they have to transfer a receiver to another tech.

check out dishretailer.com
but depending on your retailer.... we use Sattracks. Our distributor automatically loads the information everytime they ship us anything, then we can transfer specific receivers to each installer, then when it is installed on a customers account it is automatically taken out of the installers "inventory"

I don't know what the name of the program we use.. But here's how it works..Each receiver carton has a bar code wuhich represents the serial, smart and rreceiver #'s...the inventory mgr uses a scanner to record the EQ into the program. He then prints a receipt, two copies..One to sign and surrender, one for the tech to keep for their records...

This is a big issue for alot of contractors and is the #1 reason why we see so much equipment being sold below dealer cost on ebay.

Simple solution here is an excell speadsheet. Start a seperate one for each installer, and scan the ROO Numbers as each installer takes their equipment for the day.

After the installer does the Job, they peal the barcode from the receiver box and attatch it to the work order and you search it out and delete it from their inventory.

Wether you find a program or not, the easiest way to keep track of this stuff is to watch the Jobs that are not completed, because those are the Jobs where the installers should be turning equipment back in!

But its a serious problem, I had one installer steal some (311's) from me. I fired him and he got a Job with a different retailer. Meanwhile this idiot installer, was selling my stolen 311's on the side to his customers who requested additional receivers beyond what was provided Free with the promotion.

The problem here was that the dealer he worked for was using 301's at the time where he had stolen 311's. so when the account was activated I was getting paid for the installation and activation.

A few months later, I started getting service calls from DISH Network for his Jobs, and they where being refered to me because I was the retailer of record who got paid. The first one I didn't think anything of, but when I got the 2nd and 3rd service call and I could not find these customers in my database I got suspicious and looked up the account and found they where sold by the other dealer and installed with my equipment.

I called the other dealer who I am good friends and sure enough he never got paid for those Jobs, we put two and two together and realized what happened.

I got the guy fired from his Job!

Glad to hear you got his a$$ not once, but twice Claude! It's scumbags like that who make it hard for all of us.

Remember the good old days when we got paid for "custom work" like wall fishing, sub crawls, pole mounts, etc... I still think we lost that ride (at least in part) to all the losers who submitted payment for the extra work only for an inspection to show that that the installer punched a hole through the wall and said they fished it in. It was all the dishonesty, IMHO, that caused us to lose out on legitamite (sp?) money.

Hope you and the other dealer got his a$$ arrested for the thefts...it's the least he deserves as he should be black-balled from this field of work, again IMHO...

Yep The system was ripe for abuse and the guys that were doing the crap spoiled it for the rest of us.
Installers were tripling their earnings on jobs that they only deserved the regular rate...Dish found the cheating was rampant. So they killed it. Shame..I did a job today that I should have made custom money on but got bupkis.
