Detroit Tigers 2008

Well, games is over and a whopping 6 runs were scored.
Verlander went 7 and gave up 3 runs, about par for the course ...
Byrd gave up 4 hits ...

Yeah, as usual, the unorthodox happened. Both these teams are just to difficult to understand. I would've never thought Byrd would 4 hit the Tigers. Either way, we won! Boo ya!

Well, the Tribe and Kitties split the 4 game series. Much like their ambitions to win the AL Central, neither team seems to want to prevail over the other.

A few interesting stats last night from D. Willey I thought you may enjoy ;)....

• Dontrelle Willis (right) became just the third pitcher since 1956 to give up eight earned runs on three or fewer hits, according to STATS Inc.
• The eight earned runs matched a career high. He had done it three times previously, most recently on May 1, 2006 against Philadelphia.
• Willis hasn't made it past five innings in any start this season.
• Indians starter Cliff Lee became the AL's first 10-game winner of '08. Lee, who won just five games last season, improved to 7-1 on the road.

Willis is just pathetic, but I also blame the pitching coach for this. Everyone in the world who watches this guy pitch knows that this is all in his delivery, Hell, Rod Allen last night professed not be a pitching coach, but he even pointed out where he is landing, where is arm is at the moment of impact, I mean if you are going to give this guy who has stuggled the last 3 years all that money, you should at least start changing his mechanics.

Hernandez is a joke of a coach if he cannot fix this. Before yesterday, this Staff has a 3.01 ERA over the last 1 games, best in the AL..Yet we still can't hit. Coaching is to blame this entire fiasco of a season, or they suckered us all into buying these worthless tickets this season.

The mentality in the dugout is pathetic, there is no sense of urgency, and that is on the over rated manager they have. Should be a beat down coming over the next 3 days, to officially put us out of the race!!!!

Calling Willis a disappoinment would be an understatement. Sad to say that the Tigers have hit a "make or break" point to their season a month before the all-star break, but it's true. The hitting coach needs to be fired. All this firepower on paper, not on the field...

"He couldn't pitch for St. Ed's right now". Possibly the line of the night, courtesy of Cleveland radio play-by-play man Tom Hamilton on Dontrelle Willis’ lack of control. :D (St. Ed's is a local high school here in Cleveland btw).

Willis has been sent to single A in Florida to work out his problems, there is thought that he will be changing his delivery, but no one knows for sure, I hope so.

Verlander pitching tonight, has looked much better in the last 3 outings, going 7 innings in each, still hasn't been getting much support, he's getting some , so far tonight.

DetFan,

Should be a beat down coming over the next 3 days, to officially put us out of the race!!!!

They took the first game against the White Sox, played very well, winning so far tonight....
This IS a very big series for them, the Tigers could be at 8 GB and momentum or 12 GB and out of the race all together.

Verlander was on his game again tonight, thats 3 in a row of good outings for him.
He have up 4 hits, and no walks getting the complete game win.

Rogers threw a gem today, Cabrera comes up HUGE (as Rod Allen would say) with a walk-off HR.
Tigers starting to look like the club everyone thought they would be.

I was about to say the same thing, but don't want to jinx them.

They are getting good pitching and timely hitting, at least in the White Sox series.

They play the Dodgers next and usually do well against the NL, ao it's a good chance for them to do some winning and see if they can get back into this thing.

This past series was huge as they could have been 12 GB had they played like they had previously.

Lets watch the next several weeks and see what happens, they will either show that they are coming together or it was just a fluke week of playing well.

I was listening to todays game and thought they played well, but were not getting the big hit till the 6th when they scored the 1st run and when Cabrara came up in the ninth I waited for the inning to be over before going to my next sub...
At the time I was thinking, Come on Maguel, this is what we brought you over here foe, coming up with the big hit, and he did today with a 2 out HR to win the game.

Leyland said the other day that he felt that Cabrara was just now starting to feel comfortable against the AL pitchers.... :)

Thanks again Tigers for beating the White Sox! Couple the Sox loss with a 12-2 Tribe win and now we're 6.5 games back. Slowly but surely, we're crawling back in this thing.

Do ya get the feeling that these teams will soon be back in the race ???

Tigers back to 8 GB now, hopefully they will continue playing good ball ...
Maybe by the All Star break they can be within 5 or less, give them something to shoot for !

I hope so. Both teams have players on the DL coming off soon. Hopefully we can make a race of the AL Central after all.

Anyone watching the Tigers vs Dodgers game tonight on FSN Detroit HD ?

Are you having audio/video freeze tonight ?
I have never had this issue with FSN D, or any channels for that matter.
I was wondering if it's a FSN issue or Sat issue, could it have anything to do with D* opening up the Preimer channels this weekend ?

Yep, Very annoying.

Well, Tigers bats came alive after the first 3-4 innings and win 5-0.
The White Sox managed to win against the Rockies as well.
Tigers remain 8 gb
The Indians are up 3-0 in San Diego but it's only in the third.

Looks like the standing will remain the same tonight.

Tigers played another solid game while resting both Palonco and Renteria ...
Thames hit a line drive home run to open the scoring and had a great catch earlier in the game.
Ordonez finished it off with a 2 run shot late.
Galarraga pitched another strong game, going 7.0 giving up 3 hits, 2 of which were hit off his body and riccoched into open areas for base hits.

Tigers win again today, 5 straight now, hopefully they can start to pick up some ground ...

Thank you Rockies, Rockies beat the White Sox tonight 2-0 and Tigers are back to 7 gb.
Indians are tied with the Padres in extra innings.
Update : Indians give up 5 in the 10th, lose.
Tigers only .5 gb of Indians at this point.
