Detroit Tigers 2008

I know this has been a predominately Tigers/Indians thread, but as a White Sox fan, I would like to jump in. Although we just swept the Indians and are on an 8 game winning streak at the moment, I still don't feel anyone is really getting a firm grasp on the division. The Indians pitching looks very good, and the Tigers might be showing signs of life.

Who ever would have thought Carlos Quentin would be doing the things he has done this far. White Sox fans all over were puzzled, if not pissed, that Kenny Williams went after this guy instead of guys like Rowand, A. Jones, and Hunter. Right now, he is probably doing better than all three combined.

Dan Lee, your welcome to jump in anytime.
This was intended to be a AL Central thread, and it has been, it's just that not too many others post outside of a lot of us Tigers fans and a few Indians fans too.

There also is a Yankees thread floating around somewhere, back a page or two.

This may be the most maddening, unpredictable team we've ever fielded. 19 runs one night, 0 another. Sheffield is hurt again, this time it may be addition by subtraction, he isn't even hitting his weight. Joyce and Thames will get more playing time. Love last night when the Angel's player stole second, and the camera catches Placido looking to the outfield while it's happening. Dombrowski may have to shake this team up to get their attention. They sure have wasted some great starting pitching in the last 3 weeks.

All the while, Chicago and Minnesota are positioning themselves to battle for the division... Who saw that one coming?

In defense of the Tigers, it's still early. On the other hand, many of their players are getting up there in age. Maybe it is time to trade some of those guys and get some younger guys. Maybe they can put the fire back in the remaining players.

Sheffield's injuries, contract and age make him virtually untradeable. As for Chicago and Minnesota, with the whole division playing crappy baseball, there place in the division is easy to understand.

Dan Lee,
It's NOT early anymore.

Paul,
I think Sheff will be gone at the end of the year, Tigers may buy out his contract.
He was just starting to hit the ball hard again and now he's injured again.
He can still play IF he's healthy, I think the shoulder that he worked so hard to rehab this off season has went back to where it was last year, if thats the case, sorry to say, but he's pretty much useless to them.

Chicago has gotten the pitching this year, thats why they are where they are.
They still are not hitting that well, but the good pitching is holding them at the top of the division.
fwiw, The Sox got thumped by the Indians tonight, so the little kitties can potentially pick up a game tonight.

They should have won last nights game.
1-0 in 12 innings, the two teams combined for an 0-24 with RISP.

These two highly regarded offenses did that

jimbo,

I know it still isn't "early" but no one is out of the playoff race at this time. We have seen some major 2nd half comebacks from teams in baseball. Until they are mathematically eliminated, I will continue to worry about them.

But the RED WINGS lead the Stanley Cup finals 2 - 0!
The Tigers still have time to turn this around, and they will finish higher than the Pirates.
Your Penguins are still looking for the net. Does anybody really see them winning 4 out of 5?

Detroit will have the last laugh.:D

Starting pitching showing signs of consistency of late. Now if they could find some of the same for the hitting, we might be able to climb back into the race. Leyland talking about having Willis and Gallaraga split a start. Willis will start and Gallaraga will enter in the 5th.

I thoughth he meant Gallaraga would pitch then Willis would pitch in his spot the next time around and vice versa.

The match-up of the "woulda, coulda, shoulda's" resumes tonight. Maybe one of these two disappointments will use this series as a springboard to getting back into the run. These two teams definitely top the list of this seasons disappointing teams.

GO TIGERS!!!

GO TIGERS!!!

I agree.

However, Go Tribe! Keep those bats alive! There should be plenty of runs scored for both teams tonight. Historically, the Tribe has hit Verlander well and on the other side, Byrd hasn't pitched well as of recent.

As a tiger fan I dont see it....I dont want to say it, but its going to be a long summer

I hope the Sox can keep things going against their nemesis tonight. It seems the Twinkies always put a whoopin on us every year.

Well, games is over and a whopping 6 runs were scored.
Verlander went 7 and gave up 3 runs, about par for the course ...
Byrd gave up 4 hits ...
