I purchased an upgrade to the very popular Kinivo HDMI automatic switcher. I bought the new 4k 5 port model K500.

I placed the Genie on port 1 and it works, let's say I turn on my PS4 on port 2, it automatically switches to port 2 and PS4 shows.

Here is the issue, when I turn off PS4, it doesn't fall back to port 1 for Directv, but it works when I manually switch back to port 1.

I just want to confirm if this is an issue with my switcher or will all switchers have this problem with the HR44?

I suspect this is because the switch is autoswitching based on the 5v pin in the HDMI interface. Unfortunately the 5v is not a mandatory requirement on HDMI, so devices not supplying 5v won't be detected, and I am pretty sure the HR44 does not supply 5v. I remember seeing another post where a device was actually being powered by the 5v pin and so would not work at all with the HR44.
EDIT: Actually I remember now, it was an HDMI to fiber interface, and would iot work without an external power source because the Hr44 did not supply 5v.

I am powering the switch with an external power supply that came with it, based on what you said, should it be working with that power supply in play?

No, I used the example only to illustrate the Hr44 does not supply 5v on the HDMI interface. I am pretty sure your switch is using the presence of the 5v as its autodetect, to see whether a particular port has a device attached. Since the Hr44 does not supply 5v, the switch autodetect circuitry does not know the HR44 is there.
