AL CENTRAL

Last night's game was one for the ages. Verlander and Lee going toe to toe, inning after inning. Cy Young past vs. Cy Young future. All this finishing with "THE CATCH".

I would like to thank the tribe second baseman for inexplicably double clutching that throw to first allowing Granderson to score.

And to think there was a time when Cleveland would have loved to see Verlander on the hill. They should see him 3-4 more times tops. Don't think they are looking forward to that.

Sure we are. We want revenge!!! Grrrr....

Another pitchers dual by the Tigers and Indians.

In the end, the Tigers won again at the hand of Edwin Jackson, 4-0.

Congrats Detroit. You are the better team right now.

Bottom of the ninth, man on and Sizemore at the plate ....
Indians trailing 1-0 to the Tigers and Verlander ...

What more could you ask for ???

Sizemore hit's it OUT to win the game ...... but wait, Sizemores counterpart Curtis Granderson goes over the fence and brings it back ....
:D

J.V. get the next batter for his 11K and the Tigers win !

For those of you who didn't see this catch. Please enjoy. What a game. What a play......

Pitching, pitching, and more great pitching. Tiger's staff ERA should be right around 4.00, best in the division, about third in the AL. Like I said at the beginning of the season, the team with the best pitching will win this division, and right now it feels a lot like 2006 around here.

I would not go that far..In 06 they had a swagger about them, that said you cannot beat us..

Pitching has been pretty darn good, I certainly do not feel like its 06, and I have not missed a game in 4 years. In 06 Mags was hitting and so was Guillen, Polanco was too, right now until those guys get it together, our offense will struggle. I know they will come around but right now Mags looks lost..

Give the hitting some time to find it self. We have been facing some outstanding pitching from the opposition of late. Magg's body of work over his career is evidence that he will figure this out. It's still nice to know that the pitching will keep us in a game until we scratch out a run or two. HR's are nice, but the ability to win while playing "small ball" gives us opportunity to win games we didn't last year.

Remember that after that hot start in '06, the Tiger's actually played around .500 ball the rest of the season, and finished second to the Twins that year. Not a lot of swagger after the All-Star break.

Matt, thank you for that. One of the best catches I've ever seen. More so when you consider the circumstances.

And even more so when you consider it involved, IMO, the two players that comprise the best "positional rivalry" in baseball since Carlton Fisk/Thurman Munson.

Unbelievable catch!! :up

That catch is what we tune in for. I hope Granderson plays his whole career here. A complete "5 tool" player, that never ceases to amaze me. When Sizemore hit that ball, I thought it was over, and Verlander had wasted a brilliant outing with one bad pitch. My heart stopped when Granderson came down with that ball. The really great thing was watching Granderson after the catch. It was just another out to him. Meanwhile Verlander was pumped beyond belief. (I would be too, after seeing Granderson save my ass).

It'll be interesting to see whether Sizemore or Granderson will be selected to start the All-Star Game. Can't wait to see those ballots and votes!

Fred Lynn made a very similar catch against the Twins in the old Metropolitan Stadium in the '70's.

Granderson's catch on Friday night trumped that one! :up

My guy (Jacoby Ellsbury) has a longggggggg way to go before he can be mentioned in the same breath as those two.

fwiw, The Tigers were 2.5 GB in '06 at this point in the season.
Lots of time to get hot yet. :)

I remember Leyland saying that they have to learn to win the close 1-0, 3-2 type games ...
They did that the other night. 1-0

In close low scoring games this year (3 or less runs scored by the winning team) the Tigers are 4-0. :up

Sizemore has been to the All Star game the last 3 years... Granderson has not YET ...

Remember, in the All Star game, your position you play in the outfield is not as important, it's possible to see BOTH of them voted or brought to the game.
Both need to start hitting better though to get there.

Sizemore is hitting .229
Granderson is hitting .261

I expect Granderson to be at .300 or better ... when that happens, the Tigers offense will be clicking.

OK, who actually PLAYS sports?

Shaq once had a video game of his own- a fighting game!
