AL CENTRAL

Tiger beat Twins 9-0,

Porcello looks good again, nice rebound from the last time out.
The 20 year old gave up 4 hits in 7 strong innings .... 3 K's

Injury news, Carlos Guillen goes on the 15 day DL

Jimbo

I'm still thinking about today's loss......I think the Tribe needs to blow up the 'pen a la Washington. Perez, Bentancourt, and Lewis can re-learn how to pitch in Columbus.

I'm with you, but what other options do we have for replacements? I really wish Adam Miller could stay healthy. He was one of our brightest pitching prospects. I just think this whole bullpen is in a funk right now. It's almost like you want to shake them to get rid of it.

The State of the '09 Cleveland Indians

You flat out cannot win ball games when your bullpen brings a torch to the mound every single freaking night. This team has become a shell of what it should be.

Casualty #1. Raffey Left......

The Cleveland Indians today announced they have purchased the contract of RHP MATT HERGES from AAA Buffalo. To allow room on the Major League roster for Herges, the Indians have optioned LHP RAFAEL PEREZ to AAA Columbus. To create room on the 40-man roster for Herges, the Indians released RHP JUAN SALAS.
In his 13 appearances, Perez was shallacked for 18 earned runs in 10 and two-thirds innings. He had walked nine and struck out only five. He’s what the professionals call “not right.”

There is no way to know if Herges is the answer, but can it get much worse at this stage of the game? Let’s hope that Perez collects himself in Columbus; it helped Jensen Lewis last season.

LET THE HEALING BEGIN!

It's a shame about Miller.

Besides Herges, I'd bring up Meloan (late innings), Zach Jackson (long relief), and possibly Jeremy Sowers (late innings/matchup lefty). They cannot do any worse than what we have now.

Not to sound like a broken record, but it really shocks me how much the Tribe's bullpen has been struggling!

Going into the season, I thought the Indians had one of the best and deepest relief corps in all of baseball.

Us too. It's mind boggling how much bullpen success can vary from year to year.

DeRo. Nuff said, Cleveland!:)

DeRo and V-Mart had huge games KCK. Finally, we got the bats to work the same day as our pitching. Genius!

DeRo was 3 for 4 with 1 HR and 2 RBI

V-Mart was 3 for 5 with 1 HR and 4 RBI. Vic also extended his hit streak to 15 games.

Also of note, Carl Pavano earned his first win at Fenway Park. Congrats C-Pav. It's been a long time coming my goombah.

Good win last night for the Tribe, but I have to play Devil's Advocate/whiner who is never happy.

Why was Laffey moved to the pen? Besides his most recent start against DET, he has been good and reliable. No doubt the 'pen needs help, but I'm not sure about moving A-Laf there (although the 3 scoreless innings last night were a welcome sight).

Vinnie Chulk was designated for assignment. I'm certainly not a huge Chulk fan, but SADLY he has done a better job of getting people out than pretty much everybody else in the bullpen. Hopefully these moves work out, but I just don't understand the thought process used in making them.

Is Scott Lewis back from the DL yet? At the beginning of the year, Scott won the 5th starting spot over Aaron Laffey. Yes, Laffey has been great when he replaced Scott Lewis when he went to the 15 day-DL, but if Lewis can take back that #5 spot and Laffey can mend the bullpen in the meantime, I'm not against it.

I was never a big Chulk fan either. I do like this Tony Sipp though. As long as he doesn't pitch on back-to-back nights, he seems to be doing just fine.

As for Raffey-Left, I really hope he gets it figured out in C-Bus, ala Jenson Lewis last year. When Jenson came back after a brief minor league stint, he was lights out.

Very promising indeed.....
"Dr. Andrews feels that the soreness that Travis was experiencing in his surgically repaired right shoulder is not uncommon soreness after a procedure such as his," said Indians head athletic trainer Lonnie Soloff. "He's optimistic that Travis will return to game activities either when his 15 days are up or shortly thereafter.

"He expects a normal amount of post-operative soreness as you ramp up activities or as you're into baseball activities. That's what he feels like Travis was experiencing."

Kinda the same thing they said about Joel Zumaya when he had soreness earlier in the year ... he hung around in Florida for awhile and now is back as good as ever ... :)

HD, Jimbo and Skyhi, I understand when you talk about how a bullpen could be lousy. After all, I'm a Mets fan after all. Just think, 29 BLOWN SAVES last year!!! K-rod has been a God send for us.

If you guys want some advice, your just going to have to mix and match with your bullpen guys and have your starters go long. Its the only thing you can do. Maybe you find lightning in a bottle with one of your relief guys.

Tigers will be fine once all the injured get back in thier roles.

Zumaya is now back and working the 8th ... I wish it was the 9th, but it's not , for now ...
I can see Rodney being gone next year and don't have any idea what we got Lyons for ... for the 9th ? He's pitched pretty poorly from what I've seen.

You right though, the starters have to go deeper into games.

Verlander has had 3 strong outings in a row now, going at least 7 ...

Jackson has pitched well for the most part, a little defensive support would be nice for him.

Gallaraga has been good , but not great, bad the last two outings though.

It's still early :)

OK, who actually PLAYS sports?

Shaq once had a video game of his own- a fighting game!
