AL CENTRAL

On Mike & Mike this morning, they said that Detroit owner Michael Ilitch bought Sheff a "substantial present" and had quite a ceremony of celebrations planned for when he hit his 500th home run.

Apparently now though, he probably isn't going to be giving him the present. I wonder what it was and if it's returnable?

Opening Day

Just got notice that I'll be attending Opening Day at Jacob's Field this year!

The Tribe opens on Good Friday (April 10th) at 4pm against the Toronto Blue Jays. Home openers in baseball are always a fun time. It symbolizes spring and a new start to a hopeful season.

Gawd I just can't contain myself! Come on April 10th!

Congratulations! Interesting how the Tribe got "religiously correct" with the start time. If you're near 3B yell some props to your new man!!!:up

And for the Blue Jays, it could symbolize that their season may be like actual blue jays- flying South.:D

This is the perfect Opening Day opponent for Cleveland- other than Halladay, they don't have any other players that scare you.

Paul, who's Detroit opening day opponent?

I suggest you not get overconfident- last year, I'll bet many Tiger fans thought they'd steamroll Kansas City.

Hopefully not Kansas City.:D it's important that this team goes at least 20-20 in the first 40 this season, while they wait on Bonderman and Zumaya.

I'm sure somebody will answer your schedule question soon. I don't have time to look it up right now.

I hope Cabrera likes Tim Hortons.

Porcello and Minor named the 4th and 5th starters. Rodney to be the closer. Last roster spot is up between Larish and Clevlen.

Larish, I'm pretty sure has the spot.
How could they possibly call Rodney the closer when the went out and got Lyons for the role, or so was thought.

I think they may work Perry in slowly, maybe the 7th or 8th and eventually go to the 9th if he continues his current pitching.

From the freep earlier today:

The Tigers announced several other decisions today and have effectively set their pitching staff.

Provided they remain healthy, Justin Verlander, Edwin Jackson, Armando Galarraga, Zach Miner and Porcello will form the rotation.

The bullpen will include right-handers Perry, Brandon Lyon, Fernando Rodney, Juan Rincon, and Eddie Bonine, along with left-handers Bobby Seay and Nate Robertson.

Robertson, owed $17 million over the next two seasons, was apparently edged out by Miner and Porcello in what became a three-way competition for the final two rotation spots.

Infielder/outfielder Ryan Raburn, left-hander Clay Rapada, right-hander Scott Williamson and catcher Dane Sardinha were told that they will begin the season in the minor leagues. Infielder Mike Hessman was placed on outright waivers and could be claimed by another team by Friday afternoon.

“We’re close to our final roster,” Dombrowski said.

The Tigers have yet to say which position player won the final roster spot, but it’s likely that Jeff Larish will make the team over Brent Clevlen. Clevlen is out of minor league options, so the team will probably make every effort to trade him before placing him on outright waivers.

Here is the Opening Day pitching staff:

Starters
RH Justin Verlander
RH Edwin Jackson
RH Armando Galarraga
RH Zach Miner
RH Rick Porcello

Relievers
RH Eddie Bonine
RH Brandon Lyon
RH Ryan Perry
RH Juan Rincon
LH Nate Robertson
RH Fernando Rodney
LH Bobby Seay

Looking to trade Clevlen
I read something about a trade to St. Louis was in the works.

Hey Jimbo since you get FS Detroit without blackouts down there, shouldn't I get STO and FS Ohio? Only seems fair.

Why would you ?
The FSN's that I get are each over 200 miles away from Ohio, but they are in Ohio.
FSN Detroit is a mere 50 miles away.

You can have all of them with the Sports Pack :D
