According to 'Sports by Brooks', Urban Meyer is new....

OSU has a good head coach. Not so much because he is great at football, but because he knows in order for him to be great he needs to surround himself with great people. He does not believe he is the smartest best endall person. He will listen to others.

OSU has just given themselves the best chance to get back into big10 glory and its best chance at the national title.

A few highlights from yesterday's presser.....

"If not for the coaching position at Ohio State, I would not have coached this year," he said.

Wow. Pretty bold statement. Not that I'm very surprised. OSU is Urban's dream job.

Urban Meyer will make $4 million per year, plus perks and incentives over the next six seasons. The contract includes potential raises approved by the OSU Board of Trustees each year. He'll also receive a $250,000 signing bonus and three retention bonuses, in 2014, 2016 and 2018, for a total of $2.4 million. All told, that would bring his average guaranteed compensation, if he serves his full six-year term, to $4.44 million per year. He would become the 3rd highest paid coach in College Football behind Nick Saban and Mack Brown.

Said he plans on bringing Luke Fickell back in some capacity, most likely retained as a significant title on the defensive side of the ball.

Made mention of "not liking the direction college football was heading" when he retired from Florida. When asked to specify, he made mention of sketchy recruit tactics. Says the game has been cleaned up a bit since then.

In sitting out last year because of "health conditions", mostly rumored to have been a minor heart attack, it was ironic that the press conference was interrupted by a camera woman who was experiencing chest pains. A call to a medic had to be made.

On one particular February afternoon after retired from Florida and when taking a walk with his wife, Urban recalls telling Shelley, "I've made a huge mistake". Coaching is in Urban's blood. He couldn't be held back. The perfect storm opened up at Ohio State and allowed for his dream job to become available.

In Urban's first gig as head coach at Utah, he led the Utes to a 11-0 record and a BCS birth. In his second year at Florida, the No. 2-ranked Gators beat unbeaten Ohio State, coached by Tressel, 41-14 to win his first national title. How long will it take Meyer to return tOSU to greatness?

Questions still remain whether Urban will bring the spread offense to the Big 10. When Rich-Rod tried to bring it to Michigan a few years ago, it failed miserably. He did say he was very, very excited about his new QB, Braxton Miller though.

Welcome home coach! Now get to work!

Fantastic hire, but I do think adjusting to life in the Big Ten will be a transition for him. Things are done a little differently here, but if anyone can move from the SEC to the Big Ten and be successful, Urban Meyer can.

A few things. First, there is NO DOUBT he is a VERY good coach that is smart enough to surround himself with good people. IF he thought there was pressure in Florida, HA! There will be TWICE the pressure because of what tOSU was before the speed bump they went through recently. Florida was a very GOOD football school, before Meyer was there but he took them to new heights. Heights that 'the ole ball coach' could not take them. PERSONALLY, as much as many think it was mostly Meyer, I think it had alot more to do with him recruiting in the most football fertile part of the entire US...Florida. And he knows how to recruit Florida. Do I think he will steal the prize recruits of Florida? Not really, Florida kids have ALOT of alliances to Florida schools. Especially with up and coming programs at UCF USF and FIU. Once Miami gets through their issues, they too will get more than their fair share because of how well Golden has been received by recruits.

I wish him luck. I do not think he will go the full 6 simply because he is not the type of guy that gives things half effort. And with that said, his family life will suffer. And we will be back to where we were with him last year and/or the year he left Gainesville.

I hate tOSU but it ain't no fun watching them suck. MUCH more fun when they mean something and THEN LOSE. :D

So, in your OPINION, kids from Florida would rather go to Central Florida, University of Southern Florida or Florida International University, simply for their Florida loyalties rather than an Urban Meyer led Ohio State program?! You're out of your mind homer. If you're a premiere football recruit with ambitions in making it big in the NFL, you go to the best program with the best coach. You don't chose to stay close to mommy.

His WIFE said that....I think she probably had a vote or three.

IF his "I miss my family" mea culpa was legit... he would not be coaching. He is a coach...and he is addicted to coaching. It was not gonna matter what she voted for. The money just made it easier to say yes.

I meant to say "SHE" ...sorry forgot the S.:o

I love when YOU, of all people, call anyone else a homer...LMAO!!

You OBVIVOUSLY know little about Florida recruiting and Florida teams. And OBVIOUSLY you are putting words in my mouth. At NO POINT did I say they would chose THOSE schools OVER Ohio State. I stated that those up and coming programs will keep alot more recruits than in the past in the state. Florida, Florida State and Miami...AS WELL as the SEC will hog MOST of the big name recruits. They ALWAYS have and they ALWAYS will. There is nothing that will change that.

Not Urban Meyer, Not Stoops in Oklahoma and not Bear Bryant if he came back from the grave.

Dood...why do you fight this battle? There is no point, and you just give more fodder to the haters.

We got the coach we wanted...so just sit back, watch and enjoy Urban Meyer building the Buckeyes back to where we belong.

We gonna find out, Nnamdi...
;)

YES we will, Rex!

Yes we will....

LMAO! OK.... LMAO!

Anyways....

HD... like I said, do I think there will be a steady stream of Florida recruits heading to Columbus. No, Florida kids...especially the real good ones, know that pro style offenses are played in Florida, Florida State and Miami...and for the most part at USF as well. The other good recruits will hear out to the SEC and mostly the East coast as I have seen alot of recruits on campuses in the Big East and ACC. I DO think that the big time recuits that DO wanna leave that could be hogged up by Meyer...but like I said, for the most part, those kids wanna stay close to home because everything they want to play on Sundays is right here in the the state and in the Southeast.

I think we're all avoiding a very important subject here...what the heck is Sports by Brooks? They got this early, and got it right.

I don't remember seeing on the ESPN crawl 'as reported on Sports by Brooks Urban Meyer accepts head coaching position at Ohio State'. I just remember seeing 'ESPN has confirmed thate ESPN dot com is reporting that ESPN analyst Urban Meyer will join Ohio State. Details on ESPN3'

Wait. I thought you said Florida football recruits would rather go to Florida Community College or Floridian Sisters of the Poor University rather than Ohio State? Where did Florida, Fla State and Miami come from?
