2016 NCAA football discussion thread

Clempson is in a weird place. 4th place (with Alabama at #1) is great for them, as they're only 70 miles from Atlanta and the Peach Bowl.
2nd & 3rd place would put them in Phoenix, where it sucks for the fans to travel too.
Problem is, either Ohio St. or Michigan is going to lose, which would move Clempson up a spot.
Why is it so bad for Clemson fans to travel to Phoenix ?
Ohio State plays out there and rarely ever has an issue getting fans out there.

For a Playoff game to be that close to your Home is really a BAD idea.

The Big Ten NEVER gets a game like that in thier home area ...

Its great for your fans to be right there and it also is a HUGE advantage ... The sec has had this advantage for many years.

I don't see them playing these big playoff games up here in INDY ... yet.

My only hope is VT wins out - upsets clemson. VT's defense I believe can do that and the offense can keep up. Our QB has some of the best stats of any QB almost neck and neck with even Alabamas QB.

I see Herman is leaving Houston for LSU.

I'll be pulling for VT and Michigan come noon saturday!
Is Bama's QB anywhere near the category of the top QB's out there ?
Good, yes, in the Jackson / Watson category, No.
Didn't know that the Bama qb was one to aspire to be.
No disrespect to the Bama QB intended.

I saw theres talk that Tom Herman may be moving on from Houston to LSU ...
This would be a really good move for LSU, it will give them a very good offensive minded coach.

It's the next move for them. Basically, they came at Jimbo again, and Sexton worked his magic which is what people like Saban and Jimbo pay him to do. Jimbo used the leverage over FSU to gain an academic center so athletes had more access to tutors and such, and he increased his salary pool and the control over that salary pool. He is still a young coach and he sees what Sa-bear is doing with "qc" coaches. Jimbo wants the same at FSU. I love it, he used their want to grow our program, I mean he pretty much owns Tallahassee and ain't going anywhere. Plus I would not be surprised if you see it announced his salary is around 6 mil.

As a booster, I am totally fine with Jimbo using said leverage to better the program. Personally, I enjoy the fact some of our contributions would go towards an academic center. I think student athletes need more help.

Driving 70 miles to a game during the New Years weekend is much much easier than flying across the country.
Plus, what is there really to do in Phoenix for New Years? While Atlanta is not a big New Years destination, it's fine for a day trip, which it is for both Alabama and Clempson. Both are under a 2 hour drive.

Blame it on climate. No one wants to go to a cold weather climate for a New Years bowl. That's why the big ones have all been historically in Southern Cal or the Southeast coast.

So essentially if you can have basically a home game, you'll go, but having to travel you won't ...
Hell, 70 miles is like the other side of town.

Herman must already be thinking about Baton Rouge...
Now I've heard, LSU and Texas as well, more than likely working the two against one another for the best deal.
Personally I think the LSU job is Much better than the Texas job, however, it would be easier to win games at Houston once he gets his guys in there.

Texas is a crap show administration and booster wise. Id take LSU in a heartbeat.

NOLA.com reported Jimbo flat said no to 6.8 mil from LSU, but with all this stuff coming out, I am sure the agents and schools are playing off each other for Jimbo and Herman. Its just a game.

Football Scoop has also noted that if LSU keeps Coach O, his top choice for OC is Kiffin. So they could save some cash and spend stupid assistant money for Lane.

Kiffen won't leave bama for LSU for the same job.

When he does leave, and he will, it will be for a other shot at a HC position.

I agree in principle, but for some schools it's hard to say the bucks for the coach haven't paid bigger returns.

I know Saban has for us.

But I do agree, it's ridiculous.

His contract is up in Feb, which is of course why sark is a paid consultant right now. While I agree he wants a HC job or something in the NFL, if LSU paid stupid money he may consider LSU. Hell, if it was O, he could wait out his time and get that HC job.

I don't think LSU is insane enough to pay what it would take, but who knows. Darn corn dog eating carnies.

I think it would take a really ignorant amount to make a downward move for the same position.

Kiffen can't head coach like he can Off-cord at Alabama... Sabans recruiting power is why he's able to push the offense the way he does plain and simple!!
He failed at Tenn and failed at USC cause he just can NOT recruit.

I think you are looking at a different Kiffen than in the past.

Several years learning from one of the best, on top of what he had before.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him excel at a small head coaching position in the near future.

I say this as someone who was totally against getting him when hired.

depends. I'll fly to NOLA, Florida, Southern Cal, and other nice places. But not Phoenix. Been there for work before, and there is nothing there.
