agree the best QB the Baltimore Browns have ever had. but both he and Wilson have = lifetime achievements so far. but Joe could tip Russell's monies while taking limos, eating out and playing golf over a year. and let's face it the hawks could miss the playoffs this year.

mad, difference is Joe is a veteran of 6 years. You understand this, correct? Wilson will get his contract, I have no doubt about that. If Flacco's NFL career would've began in 2012 there would be no argument here.

you got it Rey i know the facts but still.
the NFL is a joke they way they treat players as to contracts, yet the older players let this happen blah blah blah.
there is no guarantee he will ever get paid. You understand this, correct?
the vets have put these younger players behind the 8 ball. You understand this, correct?
him being a Champ and being paid $650,000 is a joke. You understand this, correct?
Kaepernick too is being hosed. top line players being paid bench warmers money.

The "old" way rookie contracts were done is the joke. Is Sam Bradford worth $78M ($50M guaranteed)??

The players union is responsible for correcting the rookie wage scale fiasco, and rightly so. As meStevo and Rey said earlier, Wilson will get his money, when he's due....

Yes I've always understood NFL player contracts can be a joke. For whatever reason it seems like you're angry about something but remember I'm not your enemy, or maybe I am :p.
Champ or not is irrelevant my friend. This is what happens when the system is abused. It's why I completely agree with these conditions under the current CBA as cosmo posted above.
What changes would you like to see made? A chance to be able to renegotiate before the 3rd year of a rookie contract? Or do you prefer the way it used to be?
Don't shoot me now, just asking :-) .

That's one of the many examples and a good one. Ask salsa about that contract the Raiders gave Russell. Personally I don't want my team held hostage to a ridiculous rookie contract in case the player turns out to be a bust. Three years is reasonable to me and the player is still very young so they have a great shot at the big bucks.

your opinion
mine is : both are and were wrong. too much then now too dang little now

Remember,Russell Wilson wasn't a first round draft. He's the reason Manziel will get more money, but he was considered a risk when he was drafted in the middle rounds.

sorry Rey if i seemed harsh(might be the food poisoning not good here)
some middle ground 2 year option by the players. i'm not paid enough here to go into much more details. but both systems are wrong and 2 wrongs still don't make a right. but one would have to be blind not to see Kaepernick & Wilson getting the short end of the stick now. then Bradford got the whole tree.

we/they judge these qb's by rings(see payton ) and he has one ......that = $$ to me. and 3 years is almost all of the average career.
The NFL Players Association pegs that number at 3.5 seasons.

And a player who only plays 3 years is worth how much to a team? That's kind of the point. Those with longer lasting careers in the league/with franchises will now reap the dividends of a salary cap that is a percentage of league revenue and is tilted towards tenured players - and those deserving players who make a legitimate career from this professions are those who should most benefit from it.

Players agreed to this, there is a case for shorter contracts but I'd argue that it's mostly the running backs that deserve a re-evaluation. They are the ones that can have a meaningful career within the confines of their contract and suffer from severely diminishing returns when successful. A successful QB doesn't typically hang it up 3 years in.

I'm sorry mad but your' philosophy on player contracts does not make much sense to me. I myself am very happy they changed the way rookie contract are made. There is no reason why any player should receive an increase in their pay unless they prove they deserve it. No rookie can do that until they play in the NFL. If Wilson wants to get paid more then he needs to continue playing well until his contract is up and then he will EARN his money with a new contract. He can always restructure his contact now and try to extend it.

I'm not sure why you think Wilson deserves to be such a high paid QB anyway. I have nothing against him, I feel he did a great job but he is in now way an elite QB. He made very few errors and just happened to be on a great team with a running game and the best defense. Wilson was not the MVP on that team.

I know a lot of people never liked Ricky Williams but after watching a show about him I have new found respect for him. He wanted to be paid based on his performance and that is how he structured his contract. I feel that more contract should be this way. There should be a base pay for players and the rest based on performance.

i have come to the conclusion of this: none of you make $650,000 a year because none of you claimed blindness thus are jealous.
what else is there to think ?
because if you read this list
http://overthecap.com/top-player-salaries.php?Position=QB
Mr Wilson is #20 or better and that pay scale says he's worth 10x $650,000.
is he in the top 20 ? if you say no you fill in this blank _______ where is he?
if you read the list there are guys in the top 20, i would rather have him than them.(be honest) and i don't care if he was 10 years old.
signed Mr Wilson agent

It's ok, I can't get mad at mad :-) .

how can anyone say he is not a top Qb ALL the numbers speak for themselves. not just making up stuff here.
just saying if he were free he Would be paid.
if i were talking up Carson Palmer $8,000,000 then :facepalm shame on me

No one's arguing with you about that, just trying to get you to understand that he can't get his big payday right now within the rules, that's all....

Other QBs played within the rules and are now laughing all the way to the bank. Wilson's day will come....

It doesn't matter that he won a Super Bowl at the moment. He signed a contract for what a rookie is worth at that time. Now it's up to him and his agent to renegotiate a new contract for what he is currently worth. I know he has earned it now but he still has to work with the contract.

I'm not sure if you are some huge Wilson fan or a Seahawks fan. If you are a Seahawks fan then you should be very happy about his contract since it allows the team to spend money in other areas. There's a reason why a lot of teams fall apart after they win a Super Bowl, they can't afford to pay all the players that are demanding more money since they helped win that game.

A bunch of stuff from https://twitter.com/BobGlauber:

  • Goodell: possible owners vote on expanded playoffs for 2014 @ May 20 mtg. But he said if no vote is taken then, won't happen this season.
  • fyi: A lot has to happen before expanded playoffs become a reality. 1. Owners must approve. 2. Players must approve.
  • NFL director of officiating Dean Blandino said Shawn Hochuli, son of referee Ed "Guns" Hochuli, will be an on-field official this season.
  • Dean Blandino said NFL will experiment w/ extra points in preseason from the 15-yard line - not the 20 - as announced at owners meetings.
  • Blandino said competition committee made recommendation within the past week to have PAT kicks from the 15 instead of the 20.
  • The feeling from some clubs about PAT experimentation was that kicks were too tough from 20. Compromise was the 15.

From Jeff Rosen: https://twitter.com/jeff_rosen88

  • Goodell says #NFL is "not actively considering expansion." Neither are #NHL, #NBA. Or #MLB. Only league that is? #MLS.
  • Two female officials will be part of NFL's officiating minicamp and officiate some preseason games, says NFL officiating czar Dean Blandino..
  • NFL VP of FB ops Troy Vincent says #NFL will be different for Michael Sam than at #Mizzou, where "Coach didn't let him talk to the media."
  • Vincent says he played with six gay football players during his 15-year career as an NFL player. "They just didn't make it public."

Panthers submitted the paperwork today for the 5th year option for Cam Netwon, the first QB under the new rookie wage scale. The result is another $15m in Newton's pocket in 2015 and that's before an extension/new contract in the not-so-distant future.
