2014 FIFA World Cup Official Thread

Believe or not DJdish, I was actually thinking of your post when there was 1 minute left in the game and laughing to myself saying, "this guy hit it right on the money!" LOL

I was so confident. When the US was down, I was thinking I don´t know when exactly, but they´ll score 2.
Victory was so close, merely a few seconds away.....
I was delighted to see the US fans at the stadium, having a great time, when the US came from behind and was winning.
That draw had a bitter flavor, when the victory was a few seconds away, but then again this is the World Cup, many things can happen.

CLEAR THE DAMN BALL!!!! How hard is it to just kick the ball down the field to waste time.

Obviously, it's very hard. Foot skill manifests itself greatly when you are being pressured. As good as this team is -- and yesterday's game, despite the disappointing result (remember when a point against Portugal would have been savored?), showed this is a good team -- we still need to develop many more players with the foot skill of quality internationals. It will come.

I will admit that this team has shown they are better than most people thought. I also understand that it's not easy, I played soccer when I was 5 until I was 17 and would have played longer if there was a league for my age group then. I don't think the mistakes I saw were do to difficulty but rather poor decision making.

Netherlands ends up first in its group and will play against the team ending up second in group B, out of Brazil, Croatia or Mexico.
Chile ends up second and will go against first of group B, which sounds like Brazil.
Spain at least won it´s last game against Australia 3-0.

So after
Brazil 4- 1 Cameroon and Mexico 3-1 Croatia, the matches for next round will be:

Brazil vs Chile
Netherlands vs Mexico

Ok, after reading the following article, now I understand what was that business about Mexican player Guardado pointing at his knees, after scoring.

When Andrés Guardado of Mexico finally freed himself from a swarm of teammates Monday and emerged back under the floodlights of the crammed stadium here, he crouched along the touchline, pointed a finger down to his knees as he comically wiggled his legs, and vigorously shook his head from side to side.

A smile stretched across his face as he soaked in the deafening cheers.

The night before Mexico and Croatia met in this Group A game, with a spot in the World Cup’s knockout round very much up for grabs, Croatia Coach Niko Kovac suggested that his team had nothing to fear, that if anyone’s knees were to tremble, it should be the players of Mexico.

Today Italy vs Uruguay, for a pass to the next round.
Costa Rica vs England. Costa Rica is already into the next round and England is already out, they´ll just play this one and go back home or stay for some sightseeing.

I give up with predictions.

Costa Rica wins Group D with Uruguay coming second after a dramatic finish against the Italians. Italy comes third with 3 points where England goes last with 1.

Who would have thought this would happen?

I agree that Costa Rica ending up first in its group is quite a surpise. A nice one for me.
This morning I was thinking Italy would pass to the next round coming in 2nd place.

But wow. no it´s Ciao Italia.

I now think that Costa Rica will be in a nice possibility of making it even to quarter finals, they will play against who ???
Ivory Coast or Japan maybe.
This is getting interesting.

suarez had better be done for the tournament, plus some. there is no place for that crap in any sport
Amen to that. Great player with some serious mental issues. I just listened to Alexi Lalas talking about this and how his children will have an impact on this. Hate to say it but he's gotta get checked out. Chiellini wanted to make his point (even showed the mark) but the ref... despite pulling quite a few yellow cards and a red card, he didn't see it.

FIFA is going to have a field day with this.

OH MY OH MY OH MY MY MY.

Colombia secures 1st place after beating Japan 4-1. But the huge story...

GREECE after being in last place a few hours ago, BEATS the Ivory Coast on a late PK in stoppage time 2-1. Greece goes through!

Group C and D matchups-
Colombia vs Uruguay
Costa Rica vs. Greece

Whaaaaat, ????
Oh boy, I was watching the Colombia - Japan match, I thought that since Japan lost, then Ivory Coast was going to the next round.

I had given up any hope of Greece going through.

OK, after such a surprise, now I think that Costa Rica has a good chance of moving to the quarter finals. But wait, didn´t Greece surprise us just now ? ¡¡¡¡¡
Apparently anything can happen on this WC, I wouldn´t bet on any result for that match, I just hope we can watch more good games.

And again I regret to say apparently anything can happen on this WC, even allowing a 2 legged dog on the field who bit a player. Thankfully it wasn´t a rabid dog (or am I jumping to conclusions too quickly...)

I see now, this is the third time that dog Luis Suarez has bitten another player.
FIFA should take this matter seriously, and apply severe discipline.
It´s just not possible to allow a player who acts like a dog biting the opponent players out there on the field.

FIFA charges Luis Suarez for biting.

FIFA has officially charged Uruguay's Luis Suarez with biting Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini in the teams' World Cup match, a process that could lead to a suspension for Uruguay's best offensive player.

FIFA announced early Wednesday that its disciplinary committee has opened proceedings against Suarez, just hours after the end of Tuesday's match.
