2013 MLB Postseason

Not sure. Probably ruled not since it touched Fielder's glove first...

Turns out it didn't matter. Once the wild pitch put a runner on third they were going to score regardless. It wasn't that the fan touched the ball before him, he also was all over his arm and glove while he was trying to make the catch. I don't know what the official rule is but that sounds like interference to me. Like I said, that play didn't make the difference though.

What a heartbreaker.

I don't know where to post this, so I guess I'll go with the recency over primacy effect. That was the most incredible day to be a Boston sports fan! Tom Brady pulls off a miracle at Gillette, and then 4 hours later Papi pulls an even bigger miracle at Fenway. Oh my Gawd, I can't sleep!!

Tuesday night should be another great game.

If Verlander is on, he may have to go 9. :)

Just read an article stating that the Sox are no longer worried about the Tigers pen ..... my question is, were they EVER ?
,
If so, Why ?

Why didn't the Tigers bring in Phil Coke to face Ortiz?? I thought that was the reason Coke was added to the roster for this series....

Because Coke just came back off the disabled list and Leland probably thought that was too big of a pressure situation to dump him back into. BB is certainly a game of inches. A few inches less and Hunter would of made the grab at the wall.

OK, thanks. I was listening to some talking heads on Sirius late last week before the series started and basically they said Coke was added to the Post Season playoff roster to pitch solely to left handers in big spots. If they're not going to use him in a spot like that, why is he on the roster??

Well the guy he replaced, Luke Putkonen, is a rarely used bullpen guy. He usually comes in for mop up duty when they are way behind and Leyland doesn't want to waste his better pitchers. In a pinch you'd rather have Coke than Putkonen available. I think he will get some use during this postseason but he hasn't pitched for a while and that would have been an awful big spot to get his first action. Unfortunately it's not like he could have done any worse than what happened.

Looks like the numbers support why those talking heads said to use Phil Coke in that situation. Ortiz's career numbers against current Tigers pitchers:

Hanley Ramirez grimaces after being hit by a pitch, drawing the
attention of trainer Sue Falsone during Game 1. (Wally Skalij / Los Angeles Times)

Hanley Ramirez has a fractured rib but could still play
Monday night in Game 3 of the National
League Championship Series
.

"Hanley's not in any danger of hurting himself
any further," Manager Don Mattingly
said. "It's just a painful thing."

The CT scan Ramirez underwent Sunday
revealed that he has a fractured eighth rib, according to
Mattingly.

Whether Ramirez plays will be a game-time decision. He will
try to swing a bat and could be in the lineup if he can bear the
pain.

"We'll see what Hanley is going to be able to do," Mattingly

If Hanley plays with THAT injury, all I can say is WOW!! It hurts to even breath when you have fractured rib.

When Vinny said on Saturday that Hanley had trouble breathing and was taken from BP in a cart I just knew that was the diagnosis. But Mattngly said the results came back clean so I dunno.

That's what I was wondering. That was a situation that screamed LOOGY!

BOTH Eithier and Hanley are in tonight's lineup at Chavez Ravine! We may have another "Gibsonesque" event on our hands....for it was 25 years ago tomorrow that Kirk Gibson hit "THE Homerun"! That event has consistently come in year after year as the No. 1 moment in L.A. sports history.

Wow! Just to change subject, that loss in Boston really hurt last night. However, from an objective point-of-view Detroit did what they needed to to (split the first two games) and take things back to Detroit). I just hope we get run support and our starters can pitch eight-innings because our bullpen is to die with vice to die for. Go Tigers!
