2011 Big Ten Football

I gotta tell ya, this game was not coached well by the Ohio State coaches...how can you not try to stop the clock at all in the 6 minutes of the game?

They have all their timeouts left? What the heck are they saving them for...next game?

I agree.
Then again theres alot of things I didn't like tonight, and a few that I did like.

OSU's Running game played pretty well, was disappointed in the lack of passing game, particularly when they should have been passing in the second half.

If Bouserman can't get it moving , let the kid play.

When Miller was in there, he looked alot like Pryor in his first few games, look and run before letting passing plays open up, but your gonna have that in the beginning of his career.

Night Games:

Arizona State 14 Illinois 21
Ohio State 6 Miami 24

Game Analysis (by Riff):

- First time Illinois has started 3-0 since 2001. I thought they could beat ASU at home, but I wasn't about to pick them winning anything given the past decade they've had. Things are looking up for the Illini.

- Well, we all saw the Buckeyes play a really lousy game against a very good opponent this evening. I think the offense is in trouble if they don't find someone to lead it on the field (and find receivers who can make plays). And the defense cannot spend three-quarters of the game on the field.

Yup, even Michigan would have beat the Bucks tonight ....

I was thinking the same thing...because they still have the stench of Rich Rodriguez all over them. I'm not sure if Brady Hoke can return the program to where it once was, but he is certainly getting it moving in the right direction.

They will be back, just be patient, he's going in the right direction.

What has me, and millions of other Wolverine fans, seething is Athletic Director Martin basically threw-out the Michigan playbook (i.e., everything Michigan football did the past 40-years like winning, playing hard-nosed football, etc.) and replaced is with some coach and his "flash-in-the-pan gimmicky offense and total disregard for defense". Heck, you do something like this when you've had several season finishing at 4-8. Ugh! One of the first things Brady Hoke noticed is that Rich Rodriguez got rid of all the blocking sleds and multi-purpose sleds. It's no wonder the team couldn't block, tackle or physically handled their opponents. What rubes! These knuckleheads destroyed the football program. Prison, corporal punishment and capital punishment are options I would consider for Martin and Rodriguez. :)

Rodriguez got rid of Blocking sleds and Tackling dummies ?

How do you practice without them ?

Then again, maybe they used should bring Rich Rod back and use HIM as a Tackling Dummy !

I'm not sure about the tackling dummies, but he got rid of the blocking sleds and the ones you pull around. To be honest, from what I've seen I get the feeling he practices using flags or two-hand touch.

Notre Dame and Texas to Big Ten?

Any credibility to recent rumors of Notre Dame and Texas (colletively) engaging the Big Ten in discussion to join the conference? Offhand, this is the ONLY addition that I would favor for expanding the Big Ten. However, I just don't see it happening due to Notre Dame's contract with NBC and Texas wanting to continue their Longhated Network. Other hold-ups are Notre Dame and Texas wanting an 8-game vice 9-game conference schedule in order to maintain outside rivalries.

In the long run I eventually see Notre Dame coming over to the Big Ten; it makes sense. I do not see Texas joining the Big Ten...but who knows in this crazy age. I never though Nebraska would be a conference opponent. Anyway, here is a possible conference alignment that was proposed:

Great Lakes Division
Indiana
Michigan
Michigan State
Ohio State
Notre Dame
Penn State
Purdue

Great Planes Division
Illinois
Iowa
Minnesota
Nebraska
Northwestern
Texas
Wisconsin

Notre Dame to Big Ten could be a reality  - Chicago Sun-Times

I must say that if this rumor does come to fruition the Big Ten will have six of the Top 10 winningest football programs in NCAA history: #1 Michigan, #2 Notre Dame, #3 Texas, #5 Ohio State, #8 Nebraska and #10 Penn State.

I like it! Both programs would be very smart to come to the Big 10. The history and lore in that conference would be second to none!!
I wouldn't say that. The SEC has quite a history in itself. Both have plenty of both.

As it is, I think Texas is Pac-16 bound with Oklahoma.

It's already second to none athletically and academically but this would further seal-the-deal. While it looks great on paper, I feel bad that so many conference rivalries are taking it in the shorts. Of course, I won't feel sad if the Big 12 Conference if they implode.

I've heard rumblings that Texas is talking with other conferences, but I think that Texas is actually stalling somewhat to see what the Big Ten has to offer first, I think they would rather go to the Big 10 over the ACC.

Personally, I'm NOT in favor of the Super Conferences .... this make many more in the conferences NoBodies.
It's bad enough that each conference already has a number of nobodies, now they add more members and you know what, not all of them can be in the TOP 3 or so of the conference.

Well...Texas is going to do what's best for Texas and will gladly throw anyone under the bus to protect their interests. Offhand, I don't know how they are going to "ink a deal" with the PAC-12, Big Ten or ACC if it involves bringing-along their Longhorn Network (LHN). Plus, their "I killed the Big 12" reputation can't help. Perhaps Texas and Notre Dame can create their own conference where both can keep their existing television contracts...just need eight other knuckleheads that don't mind being told what to do.

Texas and Notre Dame can start the "Independent League"

ESPN & Fox Sports are reporting that Texas is Pac-16 bound with Texas Tech and the Oklahoma's, pretty much killing the Big 12.

If the Big Ten ever wants Missouri, they better act now before the SEC snatches them. Missouri would rather go Big Ten, but they will take the SEC over a Big 12/East merger.

Missouri is not bad from a dollars & cents perspective because it gives the Big Ten Network the St. Louis and Kansas City markets. Of course, they would have to pair the entry with another team and only Notre Dame makes sense. Some have suggested Rutgers because BTN could gain access to the New Jersey/New York city markets. Missouri/Notre Dame makes more sense from a geographic standpoint, but Missouri/Rutgers wouldn't be too bad. We'll see. Of course, the thought of these "Super Conferences" are giving me a headache.
