I think they'll eventually shut Manning down for the season.

If the Colts get off to a bad/so so start, write off this season and get a fresh start with #18 next year. As many former players have recently said, neck injuries are nothing to mess with....

Yep, I believe that, but if he can play half the season I say he plays.

ESPN and the NFL announced an eight-year rights extension on Thursday that will keep Monday Night Football on ESPN through 2021 and will increase the number of NFL-related shows on the network significantly.

The agreement, which begins in 2014 at the end of the current deal, also includes more broadband rights for ESPN.com and ESPN mobile platforms, increased international rights and the option to carry a wild-card playoff game on ESPN if the NFL decides to.

ESPN/NFL television deal keeps Monday Night Football on network through 2021 - ESPN

$1.7b/year, 67% increase over the previous contract.

Goodell mentioned in the conference call discussing the news that they will considering increasing the number of playoff games after 2013, probably as a trial balloon.

Sunday NFL Countdown will start one hour earlier at 10 am ET; NFL Live will be one hour each weekday, 4-5 ET

From an awesome sports law guy I follow on Twitter:

The Hornets got $41.2M in total broadcast revenue (nat'l + local tv + radio) in 2009. The Saints will get $59.3M per yr from new MNF deal

Also from him: Some cross-league perspective. NFL will get $1.9B per year for 1 gm per week. NBA gets $930M per year for its entire national tv deal.

(not sure why his numbers are off from the PFT ones)

Nice of Scott to promote football starting on the front page but then not suggest that maybe people would want to discuss it on the forum they are visiting, but instead pimp a sponsor.

The Packers and Patriots are co-favorites to win Super Bowl 46 at 7-1 each. The Jets and Steelers are next at 8-1 each.

The longest shots on the board? The Broncos, Bills and Panthers are all 125-1

This is going to be a high scoring game.
