2011-12 NFL Season

This is the most thrilled, excited and downright petrified I have been for my Raiders since they played in the Super Bowl!! For the 1st time ALL season, their injury report will only have 4 preseason projected starters(Shaunessey-DL, Johnson-CB, McFadden-RB, Henderson-DT...I would say 5, but Campbell, due to the Palmer trade sort of nullifies that starter) on it and out for the game. This weekend will be the healthiest they have been ALL year and it could not have come at a better time. YES, I would LOVE to have McFadden playing this weekend...but it is what it is.

I am giddy and scared sh!7less all at the same time.

Dang Jim, if you're so bloodthirsty, there's always UFC, MMA, and worse, fighting.....

Or hockey!!!

Jimbo, if tough guys are what its all about for you, watch rugby...none of this armoring themselves up huge shoulder pads and state of the art helmets...the only pads they wear are their shirt!

Who said anything about being bloodthirsty ....
Just tired of the QB's being babied all a long.

You can't hit them low, you can't hit them high, then when you hit them in the middle, you hit him too hard.

Give me a break.

I know, thats not what HD was referring to, it just drives me crazy when the QB's are handled that way ...

LOL football is such a strange sport in some ways...the only sport where for the most part one group of guys plays only offense, and another group plays only defense. One group of guys always punishing another group of guys, game after game, week after week, year after year.

I love all these big tough linebackers who just get to dish it out every game, and never have to get hit hard themselves. Doesn't seem fair.

In the NHL if throw a big hit at the end of the first period you might as well make a dental appointment between periods...because you will be targeted the rest of the game. But not in football, the same guys just line up again...to hit the same guys again.

How about we someone's favorite tough guy linebacker to stand there blindfolded with a football in his hands with his eyes closed...and a linebacker from the other team gets to blindside him at full speed and hit him as hard as he can...even helmet to helmet if he wants to...we don't want skirts on the linebackers either, right?

Then we'll see how tough the big bad defensive guys are...

We don't have skirts on the LB's .... all the rules are to protects the QB's, not the LB's.

Because linebackers never get hit...they only get to do the hitting.

When their team gets the ball and it's time for the other team to start the hitting, they jog off the field to the safety of the sidelines and watch.

One could argue that running away is even worse than putting on a skirt!

To be practical about this...NO ONE comes to game to see linebackers play. EVERYONE comes to see the well-protected-by-the-rules QB. Flashing, GOOD QBs puts asses in seats....LBs don't. QBs lead teams to victory..which leads teams to wins..which lead to..here is the phrase again..."asses in seats". LBs can HELP in victories..but ONLY once in a blue moon do they lead team to A victory. Franchise QBs can set up a team for AT LEAST a decade... if you miss out on a GREAT LB, it will not set the franchise back years.

The NFL HAS to protect the 'bread and butter' of the league, the QBs. It's that simple. Look at ALL of the teams that are in the playoffs every year...ALL of them have franchise type QBs.

I tell you that steeler fans have always loved their LBs from Jack Ham to Harrison.

Except Ben, they are aloud to hit him as much and as hard as they want.

i thought ben was a LB??? ;) be glad he's a beast. vick is another one that some claim the refs don't call the hits. but look how fragile he is.

Loved YES... Paid to see them, I doubt it. Face it, no one pays to see defense. Fans love defense, but they pay to see offense.
