2010 NCAA Football Season

Sagarin SOS:
1. Oregon State
2. Wazzu
3. UCLA
4. Washington
5. Arizona State
10. Cal

The others in the top 10 SOS are Iowa St, Wyoming, SJSU, and Colorado. Top SEC SOS is Tenn at #13.

However, the unbiased ranking by what the PAC10 calls ""The most accurate" computer rankings" (Anderson & Hester) has them as follows:
2. Oregon State
7. Wazzu
4. UCLA
6. Washington
39. Arizona State
27. Cal

and let us not forget your favorite:
67. BSu

Not sure what you were trying to say, but I hope it was not that the PAC10 schools play more difficult schedules than the other BcS conferences.

Care to "cherry pick" any more "facts?" :D

Pac10 doesn't schedule as many FCS schools, so yes, they do have more difficult schedules.

Pac10 teams are REQUIRED to play at LEAST 9 FBS teams.

What a good conference!

Good conference ?
Prior to the last several years they had ONE team, USC supporting the whole conference.
Of late they are better, but the HISTORY is not there long term.

Let's discount Florida from the SEC's record too, then. Interesting enough, the Pac 10 is still over .500 without USC's 19-3 record during the period.

Over the past 12 years (1998 - 2009), the Pac-10 actually leads the SEC 11-9 (.550).
If you want to add in the Oregon beat down on Tennessee from earlier this season, go ahead.

I just don't buy that the SEC is on a different level. Sure it isn't an argument that can be had with an SEC fan sipping the kool aid given to them by the media, but in their championship streak, there are some interesting things to note. Primarily, in the OSU games, is the way OSU is built. OSU is built to play tough, grind it out football games, in the cold winter weather. If Florida or LSU had played OSU at a neutral site in cold weather in January, it would have been a different game both times. OSU can compete in a nice climate, but they aren't going to win because they are not built for that kind of style, where the weather is comfortable.

Just wondering, if the SEC teams are so good, from top to bottom, why do they schedule teams such as Troy, Charleston Southern, The Citadel, FAU, Jacksonville St, Alabama-Birmingham, Georgia Southern, Georgia st, etc etc etc. There is nothing wrong with scheduling a decent FBS team from a non-automatic qualifying conference, but why schedule FCS teams and other cupcakes?

Furthermore, if everyone, especially SEC fans are so adamant about Boise St and TCU not deserving an opportunity to play in the National Championship game, then here is your solution: SCHEDULE THEM. If they are not on the level to play, then why doesn't one of your better teams schedule them and prove to the rest of us that they are so bad. Oregon and Oregon St for example haven't had that problem. They have lost against these teams, and nothing bad has happened to them. Oregon is #1 in the human polls and played in the Rose Bowl last season despite an opening week loss at Boise St.

I've been saying this for years, but I just get laughed at when I bring it up.

As for Boise State, they say NO ONE will play them ....boo hoo, if they didn't always want 2 home and eventually a road game with whoever they are looking to play, they might get more people interested in playing them.

Btw, who the hell wants to go play on that UGLY field they play on.

IF Boise REALLY wanted to prove themselves, they would JOIN a conference that is affiliated with the BcS, but they refuse.

Personally, I think they would be a middle of the pac team if they played in the SEC, Big Ten or probably the Pac Ten too, the BIGGEST advantage they have, is when they play a Big team, thats the ONLY Big team they play, if they played a schedule from one of the conferences I mentioned every week, they would not hold up to the standards they THINK they are achiving.

Playing Boise State is not cheap. It's all about the money. Boise wants a lot more dollars than most teams even if they do travel to your place. Scared to play them??? Get real people. College football is all about business.

I'm calling BS on the cold weather excuse. Both of you make this big deal that tOSU is such a "cold weather" team. I've lived up here for over 10 years now, and it doesn't get really cold until well in November, after most of the season has been played out. Maybe in the past it was a bit different, but not in recent years. And tOSU seemed to play well in the warmer weather to get to the BCS. You're telling me since it wasn't "cold" in the BCS games that they were at a disadvantage? That's why we laugh.

And you seem to be forgetting the scores of those games...

2007 BCSCG Florida 41- tOSU 14
2008 BCSCG LSU 38 - tOSU 24 (and not even as close as the score indicates)

Not sure temperature would've made that much of a difference. Now maybe if both games were played in a blizzard or a hurricane to take away the advantages of the better team...funny.

Ten WHY is it that NO ONE wants to play up here ?

Miami came up one year and USC, no one else is willing....

Now it starts to sound like BSU ....

Oh, ya, it's because most of you won't play unless it's over 60* .... WAHHHHHH

Like LKR mentioned, teams are BUILT different in different areas of the country.

W#hy do you think the southern teams ALWAYS have the huge advantage, WEATHER.

Miami came to Ohio and it was hardly cold.. So not sure the point your making?

And how on earth is perfect weather considered an advantage to one team or another? What OSU only trains to play in snow? The majority of the season is not snowing, in fact, its rare that they play a game in the snow! At least the last several seasons. Come on Jimbo thats just a poor excuse. "Oh our team would of won if the weather sucked"

Georgia went up to Colorado, which gets a lot more snow. Funny thing though, it was nice and warm. Why? Because most of the college season is in the fall when it's not cold. Except for the Bowl games, NONE of the college games are in the winter.

That is why everyone laughs at the "it wasn't cold" excuse.

If anything, it's worse to play in the hot humid weather of September. But you don't see the southern teams complaining about that.

Sorry to say this, but I have to agree with everyone else. The weather is a non factor when it comes to it being cold, because all non-conference games are played in August or September for the most part and it is never cold in Columbus in that time.

What a good conference!

Say what? PAC10 schools schedule only the best teams out of conference, huh? Let's peruse some of the powerhouses they play:

Oregon - New Mexico; Portland State
Arizona - Toledo; The Citadel
Stanford - Notre Chumps; Sacramento State
Oregon State - Louisville; TCU; BSu
USC - Hawaii; VA; Minnesota; Notre Chumps
Washington - BYU; Syracuse
The Almighty Cal - UC - Davis; Colorado; Nevada
AZ State - Portland State; Northern AZ
UCLA - Houston
Washington State - Montana State; SMU

You are right, the out-of-conference schedules of the PAC10 are something else, no "guaranteed wins" there.

So where are all these great teams that they play OOC? No other conference packs any more easy wins on their schedules than the PAC10. As for your great conference statement, will have to take your word for it , OK, not so much.

Your guy Anderson says in his PAC10 endorsed, never wrong poll that the conference rankings are currently:
1) BIG12
2) SEC
3) PAC10
4) BIG10
etc.

Why don't you write him in care of the Seattle Times (you know, that paper that has that oft-cited east coast bias) and correct him and tell him how it should be? I feel certain he will change to meet your standards. :D

As to the article (aka filler) you cite from the WSJ (the world-wide leader in sports information), the author was so proud of it that there was not a name associated with it, much less a credible one. Glad that you could find someone who supports your view, now if you could only find out just who that is. :)

BTW, where do you buy your tin foil? Safeway? Just wondering as it sure seems that with all the hats you make you must certainly go through a lot of it. hehehe

Id love a list of those games. I mean just this year the best team in the PAC10 beat a bottom of the rung team in the SEC this year. Hey great job :) Tenn is 0-4 in conf play. Even FLA beat them..

I just don't buy that the SEC is on a different level. Compared to the PAC10 in at least the last 20 years the SEC has been by far a better conference. Bowl Records, Out of conference records, titles etc. You name it. And what is interesting about the SEC championship streak? The fact it was not snowing? How on earth is OSU not built to play when the weather is comfortable? They play the vast majority of there season in comfortable weather? Only the last month or so of there season gets to be "really" cold. The rest of the season is weather similar to both the title games they lost. Are you really trying to tell us that OSU is built for one month of the year and not the rest of the season? What a crappy excuse.

Ya know I am not sure, but id guess it has a lot to do with many factors. Money probably the biggest.

Cant you say the same to Boise and TCU? I dont hear them complaining about the "big" schools not accepting there bids to play. Since 2002 Lets look at Boise,

2002, undefeated all season.. Except of course that 41 to 14 loss to Arkansas... (one of those SEC teams they never play)
2003 There only loss was to Oregon State (the best team they played that year)
2004 Lost to Louisville, They went undefeated all season, maybe they should of played for the title? Not after losing to Louisville..
2005 Lost to Ga 48-13 (another of those SEC teams they never play)They also lost to Oregon State, Fresno St, and Boston College
2006 Probably there best year since 2002 Winning out including a 1 point win against Oklahoma (who has a history of blowing bowl games) (Of course that was also there toughest opponent all year)
2007 Lost to Washington, Hawaii and East Carolina in the bowl game.
2008 They beat everyone except TCU in their bowl game (including a win against Oregon.)
2009 They beat everyone and yet again there biggest win was against Oregon.

Seems to me in the last 9 years Boise has played 2 SEC teams and got destroyed in both of them. Not even the cream of the SEC. in 2002 Arkansas lost 4 SEC conference games. in 2005 GA lost 2 Conference games.

So please tell me how Boise is so great? come back to the subject when Boise starts playing real teams. At least more then 1 real team a season.

oh and How did Oregon do in that Rose Bowl you are talking about? You know playing in comfortable weather against OSU (who cant play in comfortable weather it seems) Ya thats right OSU kicked there butt, (the score was closer then the game for sure)

Wait, what?
They cant win because of nice weather?
Thats one of the funniest explanations I have ever heard.

We lost because we were too comfortable. LOL

Ok, then why is it no one from up there wants to come play SEC schools at home? The weather is too nice?

Come on guys, its not like I see Big Ten schools putting out press releases that they tried to schedule Alabama, Florida, Georgia, texas or whoever and those schools declined because of the weather (or any other reason).
Hell for the most part during the bulk of the season, you guys have BETTER weather than us. We are hot as can be at the start.

At least when Alabama was killed by Utah, they manned up and admitted they were outplayed. No were excuses made then.
Same with Florida when Michigan routinely beats them.

Why can Michigan beat an SEC team in warm weather but Ohio St. can't?
