2010 Men's NCAA Basketball Tournament Thread

There goes my dark horse for the FF. Texas A&M comes up short. What could have been a hostile atmosphere for dook in Houston will now probably be a walk through for them. I bet tickets for that regional are going to be virtually worthless now. Nothing like playing in a football stadium with only 5000 people there to watch.

What's up with the Big East? Except for Syracuse, they're rolling over to die.
Along with Kansas, they're making a mess of my brackets.

...not to mention an Ivy vs. the Squid Calimari basketball factory. Man oh man LET'S GO BIG RED!

I hope not. If KY plays like they have the last 2 games. They don't stand a chance. If they play like they did against South Carolina earlier this year, well then they might just do it.

Weekend Thoughts

1. Wisconsin vs. Cornell was the whitest basketball game I think I've ever seen.

2. In just the opening weekend of play, a #1, #2 and two #3's go down, yet a #12, #11 and #10 are still alive?! This is crazy!

3. A Tom Izzo coached team is ALWAYS prepared for March. BTW, helluva shot by that Spartan kid at the buzzer. Wow.

4. I'll echo the others. Syracuse is looking like the best team in the tourney. And guess who picked them to be National Champs? THIS GUY!

5. Kansas, the #1 overall seed loosing so early is hilarious. Rock chalk J-one-and-done!

6. What's gotten into Purdue? They weren't even supposed to get past Sienna in the opening round. Robbie Hummel, Robbie Schmummel.

7. Ok, first two rounds are over and so are the major upsets. I just don't see Cornell upsetting UK, Washington upsetting WWU, Purdue upsetting Duke or Butler upsetting Syracuse. It's time for the big boys to get back to business. What's left of them anyways.

Amazed that most people are dismissing Tennessee. They did beat UK and Kansas this season and are playing very well right now. I know I (UK) do not want to play them again.

Honestly, as a Buckeye fan, I was more concerned with Georgia Tech. Now that Tech is out of the way, I don't see how we can't also beat Tennessee. Hell, a mid-major with half the size and talent as the Volunteers hung around with you for most of your recent game.

No way! Kentucky beat their opponents by more and was just playing around with them or they could have been much much worse.

I will say this....everyone plays man-to-man. VERY few teams play zone, and when they do....they play it in spurts. The 'Cuse plays it the entire game and it is a frenzied zone that all most looks like either a man-to-man or a trap. The ONLY teams that see it that often are the teams in the Big East.

...IF the zone is played out the way they have played it in the 1st 2 rounds.....they will be National Champs.

Apparantly Kalin Lucas is out with a torn achilles tendon for Michigan St. Tough break and could mean Northern Iowa has one more upset left in them.

KY has played a lot of zone and actually does better against zone than against man-to-man so I don't understand why teams keep trying it.

I don't think UK would mind a bit seeing them again. They did beat them by 29 points in the SEC Tournament. I know I would love it if UK and UT played for the national championship. I would feel real good about UK winning that game.

UK has done well against zones this season. I think the reason others kep trying it is that is the only way they feel they can beat them. Most teams can't matchup with UK and so they lay back in a zone hoping they don't their threes. When UK hits their threes they are nearly unbeatable.

There are certain coaches who are very good 'zone offense' coaches. There is a reason Rick Pitino has beaten Syracuse twice this season. Calipari is also a very good zone offense coach, though he does make other in-game decisions that sometimes make you scratch your head.

The Syracuse zone has seams in it if you move the ball quickly enough, and presents boxing out issues for the defense, just like any other zone. Syracuse has been playing this zone for 20 years, and they are not 20-time defending champions. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

However, this year Syracuse also has a world of talent.

Disagree on the squid. Calimari's dribble-drive-motion-chuck-and-duck is only occasionally good against the zone, when their myriad 3's are falling. I would like Cuse against this offense, as the top of their zone is very tall this year, making it (possibly) the best version of Boeheim's 2-3 ever.

Bingo, this is a key to the Snowmen zone this year, they have lots of length. Talented length.

You're right, Calipari's offense will generate open threes against the Snowmen zone. If they fall, the Orange could be in trouble.
