2010-11 NBA Basketball Season

How about the wheeling and dealing Magic?!!!

Added to the Orlando roster: Gilbert Arenas, Hedo Turkoglu, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark.

Deleted from the Magic roster: Rashard Lewis, Vince Carter, Mickael Pietrus and Marcin Gortat.

The Magic reacquiring Turkoglu is a great move. IMO, the Magic sorely missed Hedo in the playoffs last season.

OTOH, acquiring Arenas is a head scratcher. Why would a team with title aspirations want that cancer on their team (not to mention losing Lewis)?? Maybe the Magic didn't think they could compete with the Celtics and Heat come the spring the way the roster was constituted??

Turkoglu and Lewis are the same player. (No advantage)

Arenas and Vince Carter both have questionable work ethics and health issues. With Gilbert though, if healthy, he has a better outside shot. (Slight advantage: Magic)

Jason Richardson and throw-in for Gortot and Pietrius: The Magic will be losing two solid bench players and defenders. Jason Richardson has a higher ceiling though. (Slight advantage: Magic)

On paper, the trade could be valued either way. It's clear the Magic, especially riding a current losing streak and exiting the playoffs early last year needed a shakeup. They weren't winning the title by staying put. They took a risk. A risk worth taking probably.

I don't know why they did not go after Chris Paul? Didn't he not mention that Orlando was one of the teams he wanted to possibly play for?

Very true. But you would think that IF Paul did not sign some kind of extension...something is better than nothing for the Hornets.

Yeah, you would think. The trade deadline is still a ways away though. Maybe the Hornets are waiting until another team sweetens the pot a bit more. Either that or they still think they can convince CP3 into staying.

Convincing ain't gonna happen...the REALLY good players now cannot be convinced by money. They made their money early in the careers...now they wanna win.

Chris Paul is under contrract for 2011-2012 for $16 million, so the Hornets are not yet approaching the brink. 'Melo, on the other hand, becomes a free agent at the end of this season.

Get used to it. LeBron sucks at free throws. It used to frustrate the hell out of me.

Was not just Lebron. That is the ONLY part of the game that cannot be excused for ANYONE!!! There is NO ONE guarding you! You, as an NBA professional shot almost 100 FT shots a day in practice....

Celts project to 70 wins, Spurs to 73 wins. Mavs to 67. This year looks to be the Year of the Haves and Have Nots.

I doubt anyone will ever win 70 games. WAY too much has to go in your favor for you to win 65+ games. I was there when the BULLS won 70 games and they had a TON of good fortune and lucky calls/bounces ...OTHER than being really good.

There are soooooooo many teams who cannot compete with a good team that, barring injuries, good teams should have very large win totals. DEFINITELY a case of haves and have-nots.

It's a good time for a "statement" game from Orlando against San Antonio tonight. They have lost seven of their last eight, including their last two with their new, supercharged lineup.

Isn't tonight the debut of the entire "new team"?

Gonna be interesting to watch those games on Christmas Day.

Salsa was at some of these games- he used to cover the Bulls in the Jordan-era, and they played in a lot of XMas games.

Turkoglu and Richardson have already started and played over 30 minutes each in losing efforts against Atlanta and Dallas, and Arenas was first off the bench in both games but played under 20 minutes in one of them because he was saddled with five fouls.

Crying all the way to the bank
