2009 MLB Playoffs

They will just have to live with whatever happens. They could also show the game on FX, but I doubt they will do that.

Personally, I think this is all baseball's fault. The Championship Series' have been determined for a week and baseball has been idle for all this time when they could've been playing. Instead, they wanted to wait to start on a more TV friendly day of Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday....

It's already been discussed here as to why the dates are determined ahead of time and aren't moved up. $$$. What if they did move a series up and it rained on those days??

Weather always will be an issue with postseason play, there's not much that can be done about it. As for the Yankees 3-man rotation, that was their choice and I'm sure they knew the risks involved with game postponements potentially screwing it up.

The NBA moves series up though, why not baseball? Just a thought, I know the reasons not to also.

It's baseball. It won't be the first time weather changed the pitching plans of a manager. It's not like the Yankees can't use a fourth starter if need be.

Dodgers Fail to Sell Out Game 1 of the NLCS?!

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Dodgers third base coach Larry Bowa, who spent four years as manager of the Philadelphia Phillies, is not surprised tickets are available for Game 1 of the National League Championship Series at Dodger Stadium.

"It's just a different atmosphere," Bowa says. "It's not life and death here. People want to win here, but it's not like you're going to go on a bridge and jump off if you don't. I tell our guys I wish they could play in the Northeast once. Maybe they wouldn't be so sensitive."

American Chronicle | No Sellout in Laid-Back L.A.

Just got home from the Dodger game.. it was a good game, too bad local team lost.
When manny hit that... the place went nuts.. had a great time overall.
IT was a good game. I think the ump was squeezing both pitchers (saw some of the game on TV while getting food)?

First time I have ever sat in the bleachers. Now I realize how they get the name, "bleacher bums".

Again, want to thank Claude and Scott for the tickets. :up

It wasn't a sellout? Could have fooled me. There were over 56,000 people there and that is about what the stadium holds.

BTW, I never go to a playoff game because of the price. I would rather watch it at home in HD than spend $100 for seat that normally cost $20 or $50 for seats that cost $6. And have to drive in that LA traffic. I will go if someone give me tickets, like the situation last night.

Opening day for the Reds:

2008: Monday, March 31
2009: Monday, April 6

One week difference. Not confusing at all. ;)

Sandra

OK, Missy Smart-Ass, what part of "last Sunday in March/first Sunday in April" did you not understand???

Now go back to 2007, 2006, 2005, etc. and see when they start!!!...

When you die and go to heaven you be arguing because there is nothing to argue about!!!...

Plus, take into consideration that for the first time both Angels and Dodgers are in the LCS in the same year. Many folks are card-carrying Dodgers AND Angels fans. It is not cheap to go to these games so many are alligning with one team or the other if they can afford it.

I am willing to bet that back in 2000 when both the Mets and Yankees were in the LCS (leading up to their Subway Series) that not all Shea and Yankee games were sell outs for exactly the same reason.

P.S. Chavez Ravine looked pretty damned packed to me last night on TBS.

This may be the must untrue statement ever typed on this forum.

Everyone wanted tickets to LCS games, but most (including yours truly) were shut out. It should also be stated there are precious few 'card-carrying' Met AND Yankee fans. For most fans their second favorite team is whoever is playing their cross-town rival.

Sandra,
who's "hated" more by Yankee fans, the Red Sox or Mets (generally speaking)?

Friday's NLCS Game 2 on TBS/TBS-HD

Phillies (Martinez) at Dodgers (Padilla)- 4:07pm ET/1:07pm PT

Friday's ALCS Game 1 on Fox/Fox-HD

Angels (Lackey) at Yankees (Sabathia)- 7:57pm ET/4:57pm PT

Friday's Yankee Stadium forecast:

[ame="http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/blog/index?entryID=4565315&name=mlb_playoffs"]ALCS: How's the weather? - ESPN[/ame]

Here are my LCS predictions:

Yankees in 6- the Halos can match the Yanks hitter-for-hitter, but Fuentes vs. Rivera is a mismatch in closers.

Philles in 6- They have better bats, more threats to hit a longball, and good starters, plus they know how to win.

I predicted a Phillies/Yankees WS before the playoffs- I'm sticking with it.

Sandra,

Two different kinds of hate, I think. Not sure about 1986, but I think Yankee fans would rather the Red Sox win if they play the Mets in the World Series.

Yankee fans hate the Red Sox team, and the Met fan, if that makes any sense. It's just so different when you have to live alongside a fan year-round. Even if the Red Sox win we can pretty much ignore the celebration from down here. There are plenty of Red Sox fans in the area, but not like the millions of Met fans. And you have to hear about it on the radio all the time too.

This is how I feel about the Islanders, and it pretty much applies to Met/Yankee fans too.

If the Islanders were playing a team from Mars, and the fate of mankind depended on the outcome of the game...I say 'Lets Go Mars'. All I need is to hear stupid Islander fans harping 'haha we saved the planet'. Forget it, I'd rather be obliterated...

Looks like this American Chronicle is wrong. Sort of sad when a paper does a whole article on a story and yet the main premise of that story ends up being false. Sort of puts a nail in their credibility coffin.

Dodger Stadium Capacity is 56,000

http://www.answers.com/topic/dodger-stadium-1

Seating

Dodger Stadium is the only current MLB park (excluding the most recently-built parks) that has never changed its capacity. It has always held 56,000 fans, due to a conditional-use permit limiting its capacity. Every time the Dodgers add seats, they always remove an equal number of seats in the upper deck or in the pavilion to keep the capacity the same.[1] Through the sale of standing room only tickets, though, the Dodgers' 2009 home opener managed to draw 57,099 fans, the largest crowd in stadium history. Although beer was not available in the left field pavilion until recently, it is now available in both pavilions. A new addition to Dodger Stadium in 2009 is the Bleacher Beach. Bleacher Beach is in the upper deck in left field and the fans sitting there have access to free food.
With the retirement of Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium in 2009, the park claimed the title of being the largest capacity stadium in the Majors.

Last night the Dodgers had 56,000

Weather: 75 degrees, clear.
Wind: 4 mph, Varies.
T: 4:02.
Att: 56,000.
October 15, 2009
I think that article maybe...um, what is the word I am looking for?...Wrong

Even though you may see them pack over 57,000 for the official attendance, an official sale out is 56,000.

The Dodgers had their 2nd best attendance year ever this year
Drew the most fans in all of baseball this year
And continued their streak of 3 million + fans...the most by any team by a looooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnggggggggggggggg shot.
