2009 MLB Playoffs

Speaking of television coverage of the playoffs, I really enjoyed the visual aspects of the coverage on TBS. Fox has way too many things going on. TBS for the most part kept the screen clear of dancing robots and annoying explosions of noise, etc. Maybe the announcers were not the greatest but I found it easier to concentrate on the game itself. Anybody else feel this way or is it just my age showing?

Baseball World Series Ratings have not kept pace with NFL playoff and Super Bowl Ratings. I find that interesting. Since 1985 the Superbowl has not lost viewers. An Average 42 rating and 60 share. No Drop. And the playoffs do almost as well.

As for baseball in 1985 they had a 25.3 rating and 39 share. It has dropped every year since then . 2008 had a 8.4 and 14 share. Have we grown tired of baseball?

I haven't grown tired of baseball. I have gotten tired of baseball on TV. I want to see the game. I do not want the inane dugout interviews during the game, I don't want rock bands blowing out my speakers or dancing robots. I would like announcers to at least act like they are interested in the game they are working. I would like to see fewer pitchers staring at the batter for thirty seconds then having the batter step out of the box. . I achieve these goals by going to MLB.com and watching gameday. A new pitcher for each batter may be called strategy but I call the time waiting for the change boring. Sometimes I listen to the audio along with gameday. If there is an exciting play odds are there will be a highlight video shown. I really only watch when I expect a big game. I will also often record a game, start the replay half an hour late then use the skip ahead feature on Dish to watch. I usually catch up to live TV in three of four innings. Sorry about my rant but the question was asked. Just my opinion.

Interesting. It was either last year or the year before that WGN did about 3 innings of a game in Black and White. It was to celebrate the Cubs On WGN Anniversary . They also used the same Camera Angles that they used from the 1940 or 1950's. No score on the screen. I thought it was very good. You have to wonder if people had the choice to block out the announcers would they do it? They tried it once in football years ago. No announcers. You might be able to do it today if you blocked your center channel on your stereo.

One thing they still need to do is speed up the game.

Once a year, the local FSN in L.A. does an Angels game and a Ducks game without any call playing or graphics. They are down on the field/ice level and all you see and hear is what's going on at the game. Quite interesting!

Well...we have 24 hrs. to clear out this rain from Los Angeles. Right now, Chavez Ravine is soggy, misty, damp and cold. But it is plenty GREEN from all of this constant drizzle and occasional downpours of the past 36 hrs. or so.

They tell us that by the 5:07PM first pitch tomorrow we will think it's Summer here in L.A.

We shall see....

Meanwhile, they are already talking rain delays in the ALCS at Yankee Stadium this wekend.

Well looks like I am going to Game 1 on Thursday at Chavez Ravine. All you can eat Pavilion.. Looks like I will be consuming at least 3 Dodger Dogs and at least one Nachos..

I'll be there as well.

With that said. Baseball still has better ratings than basketball and hockey, AND TBS just set ratings records this past week. So growing tired of baseball doesn't seem to be the case. Perhaps you have, but others have not.

Supposed to go from the 60's and wet to the 90's and dry in one day (actually 80's in LA and 90's in the valleys). Don't recall this ever happening before. Usually if we get a warm and dry spell after rain it takes a few days to rise 30 degrees.

Yes, I totally agree. TBS has graphics and sounds that spice it up but aren't annoying like FOX. That and TBS' production, announcers etc. seem to have more respect for the broadcast. Its not CBS, but TBS is the closest we can get I guess.

The numbers don't say that others have not. In fact MLB is very concerned about the drop . The NFL is doing something right.

there is one annoying thing about TBS - the fairly constant pitch tracker or whatever on the right wing. I prefer just to have pitch tracker show up in the replay of a key hit or pitch, not almost constantly being in the right wing with exploding baseballs whenever a new pitch is located in the graphic.

I suppose I could just fix things by changing the aspect ratio so that it is cropped out of the pic, but then it's a PITA if I tune somewhere else for a moment and have to change the aspect ratio back to 16:9.

Just what we need on the eve of the NLCS...

Couple who run the Dodgers separate -- latimes.com

McCourt's are splitsville. I hope they can stay out of the public/national eye during the rest of the season so the Dodgers can concentrate on doing their job on the field and then have their ugly proceedings in the offseason.

Well, they have flaunted themselves in our faces out here in such an arrogant manner that now it's time to turn the tables on them. Instead of being stoic, quiet people of money who own a baseball team and stay out of the limelight (like Arte Moreno) they chose to be in our faces in all ways. You live by the sword, etc. etc.

I will be one of many who will be licking our chops watching their very public demise!!!!!!:)

Attendance has risen every year in baseball (this year down a little due to the economy, but the Dodgers still had their second best attendance season).

Ratings are up this year

Ratings are still #2 of our 4 major sports

It is not as bad as you are making it sound

Comparing football to any other of the 4 major sports is like comparing apples to oranges. Football plays 16 games a year and once a week. The playoffs are 1 game. Of course they are going to have more viewers since their are fewer games to watch and every game is more important than it is in any other sport.

I am glad they are in our faces. Unlike the Fox ownership, they are involved in promoting the team and helping out the community. Frank is at every game watching from the field boxes. This demonstrates that he actually cares about his team winning.

Perhaps he should have been just as involved with his wife, then they probably would still be together??? Then again, when you marry a successful business man, one should know that his businesses and investments usually come before everything (that is how they became successful to begin with).

It may not be him...she certainly acts "the flirt" in public. And have you ever seen her mini-skirts???? I have seen her several times at functions where she has shown off way too much skin for a woman of her age and stature!
